Job description

The Teacher Assistant supports classroom teachers in creating a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The Teacher Assistant works collaboratively with teachers, specialists, and administrators to provide instructional support, reinforce classroom expectations, and help meet the diverse needs of students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist the classroom teacher in implementing daily instructional activities and lessons. Provide individual and small-group academic support under the direction of the classroom teacher. Reinforce reading, writing, mathematics, and other curriculum concepts through guided practice. Support students with diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities and English Language Learners. Help foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment. Encourage student independence while providing appropriate guidance and support. Assist with classroom management by reinforcing school and classroom expectations. Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, field trips, and other school functions. Prepare instructional materials, learning centers, bulletin boards, and classroom resources. Assist with organizing classroom supplies and maintaining an orderly learning environment. Observe student performance and communicate relevant information to the classroom teacher. Support the implementation of behavior intervention plans and positive behavior supports when appropriate. Assist students with technology and educational software during instruction. Maintain confidentiality regarding students, staff, and school matters. Participate in professional development opportunities and required staff meetings. Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families. Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or building administration.

EMPLOYEE MUST BE NYS TEACHER CERTIFIED; a candidate who is actively enrolled in a program to become a teacher may be considered.
