Job Description
TEACHER ASSISTANT
Reports to: Principal
Purpose: To serve primarily as an instructional assistant and work with children. To support the Teacher in organizing and preparing instructional materials and to support the daily functions and activities of the classroom and school.
Qualifications:
- 48 semester hours which include core courses with an overall 2.5 or higher GPA from an accredited institution, OR
- Associate Degree or higher with an overall 2.5 or higher GPA from an accredited institution, OR
- WorkKeys testing in Applied Math (min score 4); Workplace Documents (min score 4); and Business Writing (min score 3).
- Obtain and maintain a bus license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve primarily as an instructional assistant and spend the majority of time working with students.
- Assist the teacher in ensuring a safe and healthful environment.
- Enforce school and classroom rules and expectations consistently.
- Interact effectively with students, teachers, administrators, co‑workers, parents and community.
- Conduct oneself as a role model, exhibiting positive behavior.
- Work may consist of being assigned to a grade, class or department and not to a specific teacher, and will be utilized based on the needs of the school.
- Comply with all administrative directives in a timely and professional manner, including written directives regarding specific issues or behaviors.
- Exhibit punctuality and regular attendance.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher and/or principal in a timely and professional manner.
Term of Employment: 10 months
BUS DRIVER
Reports to: Principal
Purpose: To safely transport children to and from assigned school.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalency preferred.
- Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with P&S endorsements.
- Must be able to successfully complete a medical examination.
- Must successfully complete the physical standards testing set forth by the School Bus and Traffic Safety Section of the NC Division of Motor Vehicles and the school system’s transportation department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to meet and maintain legal and physical requirements for North Carolina School Bus Certification and local rules.
- Ability to operate and maneuver a school bus with proficiency.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with all levels.
- Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations.
- Ability to earn the respect of students of all ages and act sensitively to their needs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain current bus licenses through required training.
- Drive a school bus safely and professionally.
- Maintain order and discipline of students assigned to the school bus in accordance with school board policies and the school code of conduct.
- Complete daily pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of a school bus.
- Keep the bus cleaned and well maintained.
- Report mechanical problems immediately to the bus garage (704‑639‑3051).
- Accurately complete timesheets and submit them to designated principals on time each month.
- Contact the principal if any student is on the bus longer than one hour and fifteen minutes each way; the principal will work with the director of safety to determine the most efficient route time.
