  • Assists with large group activities such as drill work, reading aloud, and storytelling.
  • Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in oral communication with students.
  • Assists students in the library or media center.
  • Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and makeup work as directed.
  • Checks and records student attendance.
  • Collects and records money as applicable.
  • Assists students with clothing.
  • Assists with lunch, snack, and cleanup routines.
  • Assists with wash-up and toilet routines.
  • Alerts the regular teacher to problems or special information about individual students.
  • Serves as a source of information for substitutes in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information and behaves ethically.
  • Participates in in-service training and daily/long-range lesson planning.
  • Fosters good eating habits and table manners in children.
  • Assists with maintaining neat work and study areas.
  • Supervises children during regular play periods.
  • Collects and displays suitable material for educational displays.
  • Uses correct grammar and syntax in speech and writing.
  • Demonstrates concern for students as individuals.
  • Supports a positive classroom environment conducive to learning and self-esteem.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal, and Superintendent.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Follows school board policy and school rules and regulations.
  • Administers, scores, and records such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students.
  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
