You will support classroom instruction and student development, fostering academic growth, social-emotional skills, and positive behavior for students with diverse needs.

The role involves assisting teachers, providing accommodations, collaborating with therapists, and helping maintain a safe, organized classroom.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in educational or childcare settings.

Responsibilities

  • Assist classroom teachers with daily instructional activities, including curriculum implementation and lesson support.
  • Provide physical assistance and behavioral support for students with disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorders and developmental disabilities.
  • Support students’ literacy, math, and early childhood education activities, ensuring engagement and understanding.
  • Implement behavior management strategies tailored to individual student needs, promoting positive conduct and social skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other professionals to develop and execute individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Support classroom organization by managing materials, preparing learning resources, and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods to facilitate effective interaction with students requiring alternative communication strategies.

Requirements


  • Prior experience working with children or individuals with disabilities in educational or childcare settings.

  • Knowledge of childhood development principles, classroom management techniques, and behavior support strategies for students with special needs.

  • Familiarity with Deaf education, autism spectrum disorders support, and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) guidelines.

  • Ability to handle confidential information responsibly while maintaining professionalism.

  • Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—to effectively collaborate with team members and support student learning.

  • Experience working in special education classrooms or private school environments is preferred.

  • Basic math skills, literacy education knowledge, and experience supporting early childhood or toddler care are advantageous.
