Position Summary

The Teacher Assistant provides instructional and operational support to teachers in the delivery of curriculum and facilitation of student learning. This role is responsible for reinforcing instructional content, supporting student mastery, and contributing to a structured and academically focused learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily classroom operations by ensuring adherence to school expectations and standards
  • Monitor, assist, and document student behavior
  • Supervise students on campus and off campus during field trips
  • Assist with ensuring classroom environment and other areas of instruction are designed for the overall safety, care, and enrichment of the students.
  • Support teachers in the delivery and reinforcement of instructional content
  • Facilitate small-group and individualized differentiated academic support to promote student comprehension and mastery
  • Monitor student participation, engagement, and academic progress
  • Assist in the administration of assessments, assignments, and instructional activities
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student attendance and performance, including grading and participation.
  • Provide timely communication to teachers regarding student performance, concerns, and progress.
  • Support virtual instruction meeting connections
  • Attend and actively participate in all scheduled planning and debriefing meetings
  • Assist with uploading course completions into the SIS (as needed)
  • Support NBHS by attending community service and outreach activities throughout the year.
  • Assist with recruitment, marketing, and retention of students.
  • Enhance instructional materials using technology, which will aid in other assigned tasks.
  • Support the school's mission by assisting with home visits.
  • Conduct annual review and propose appropriate updates to the designated Teacher Assistant Reference & Procedures Manual.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of 60 college credits or an Associate of Arts/Science degree from an accredited college/university or passing score of 464 on the Paraprofessional Exam.
  • Prior experience in instructional, academic support, or youth development preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to support diverse learners in structured environments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer software and hardware process applications such as spreadsheets, word-processing, databases, operating systems, and/or presentation software.
  • Pass a Level 2 background check and fingerprinting clearance.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and accountability in all assigned duties while maintaining alignment with school policies, procedures, and instructional expectations.
  • Actively contributes to a structured, student-centered, and academically rigorous environment, exhibiting initiative in supporting instructional effectiveness and student success.
  • Must demonstrate content-area proficiency aligned to their assigned instructional subject; all Teacher's Assistants are required to successfully pass a subject-specific proficiency examination with a minimum score of 80% or higher, demonstrating mastery of the assigned content area, with this requirement serving as a condition of assignment and ongoing placement in the role.
  • Able to adapt to changing work priorities, exhibit tact and patience, and perform duties accurately and efficiently.
  • Able to work both independently and as a team member with other individuals and organizations, while setting high expectations and contributing positively to NBHS culture.

Physical Environment

Requires working indoors and outdoors. Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and climbing. Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 20% walking, and 40% standing. Sitting for extended periods of time; operating office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects.
