Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is hiring Teacher Aides to support students across Special Education programs regionally. The role offers an 6-hour day schedule on a 10-month calendar with potential summer work and paid holidays.

The pay is hourly, with benefits including NYS retirement and health and dental insurance. The Teacher Aide will assist teachers, supervise students, manage behavior, and help prepare instructional materials while maintaining FERPA confidentiality and participating in ongoing

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
• Fingerprinting and background check required per NYS law.
• Physically able to perform essential functions (lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teacher with non-instructional duties supporting students with disabilities.
• Provide general supervision in classrooms, hallways, lunchroom and playground.
• Support classroom management and implement behavior strategies and crisis intervention as directed.
• Prepare classroom materials and displays; assist with IEP/504 plan implementation.
• Assist with transportation and community-based activities as needed.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.

Job Description

Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES is hiring Teacher Aides to support students across our Special Education programs throughout the region. This is meaningful, hands‑on work where your presence truly matters every single day.

Work Schedule & Benefits

• 6 hours per day
• 10‑month position following the school calendar (evenings, holidays, and summers off!) with the option to work during summer school
• Hourly Pay Rate of $16.00 - $18.72 (dependent on experience)

What You’ll Do

As a Teacher Aide, you will:

• Assist the classroom teacher by performing non‑instructional duties to support students with disabilities individually, in small groups and/or test proctoring.
• Assist with general supervision of students in a multitude of settings including, but not limited to classroom, hallways, lunchroom, and playground.
• Assist with classroom management of students and monitoring individual student behavior through crisis intervention by implementing positive behavior management strategies or others supported by the program.
• Perform physical intervention techniques (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) when necessary.
• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and safety plans under staff direction
• Support de‑escalation and prevention strategies, and respond to student crises as requested.
• Assist with the preparation of classroom materials, projects, demonstrations and displays.
• Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans under the direction of certified staff
• Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA
• Utilize your own special skills and abilities by assisting the instructional program in such areas as foreign language, arts, crafts, music, recreation, vocational or other similar subject areas when requested/appropriate.
• Ride the school bus with students and support students in community‑based learning activities (work experience, field trips, vocational training).
• Assist in self‑help, personal care activities, including toileting, and mobility for students with disabilities.
• Willing to continue ongoing professional development in support of program placement.
• Perform other duties related to specific programs.
• Complete required training as assigned, including TCI‑S
• Attend meetings, as necessary.

Job Qualifications

• Civil Service eligibility for Teacher Aide required: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma
• Work collaboratively with team members to effectively support all students in program assignments.
• Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively communicate with adults and students.
• Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation) including, but not limited to:
• Performing physical intervention techniques,
• Lifting/carrying/moving up to 50 lbs,
• Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, and/or reaching.
• Supporting/transporting students in wheelchairs and/or providing assistance with transfer, ambulation and positioning.
• Escorting and/or walking with (in some cases running after) students in multiple settings such as in community based activities, nature walks and school buildings.
• Fingerprinting and background check required (per NYS Law)
