Job summary

St. Clair County School System is seeking a dedicated Teacher to provide an engaging educational environment aimed at student success. The role reports to the Principal and requires leadership, collaboration, and effective instruction across multiple settings.

The incumbent will implement curricula, utilize education technology, and communicate with families while supporting district goals and accountability measures. 9/10/12 month terms apply.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, effective classroom practices, and professional development.

  • Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on student discipline, Virtual School, attendance, and safety matters.
  • Collaborate with special education staff on IEPs, BIPs, gifted education, and accommodations.
  • Collaborate with bookkeeper on finance-related tasks.
  • Collaborate with Technology Director on tech purchases and repairs.
  • Supervise students and supervise mentee/student teacher as assigned.
  • Communicate with parents about student progress and achievement.
  • Monitor student progress using assessments and data for planning and evaluation.
  • Provide safety procedures in line with guidelines.
  • Participate in district and state meetings for professional development.
  • Participate in school improvement plans and accountability reports.
  • Maintain high expectations and foster a rigorous, achievable learning environment.
  • Participate in evaluations using state and local tools.
  • Show initiative to improve job performance and responsibilities.
  • Report absenteeism and arrange substitutes as required.

POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR ST. CLAIR COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM

TITLE: Teacher

JOB GOAL: To provide an educational environment designed to help students succeed academically in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives.

JOB STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  2. Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  3. Knowledge of curriculum development, effective classroom practices, and professional development
  4. Good public relations skills
  5. Ability to understand the unique needs and learning characteristics of students
  6. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
  7. Knowledge and ability to use and facilitate the use of various forms of education technology and assist in instructional practices
  8. Superior leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills and ability to be an instructional leader across multiple settings. Must work collaboratively as a team member with large and/or diverse groups.
  9. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  10. Proficiency in oral, written, and electronic communications with the ability to produce, lead, and deliver presentations to various stakeholders.

  5. Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator, local school administration, and counselors in identifying maintenance concerns.
  6. Collaborate with local school administration and counselors on matters related to student discipline, Virtual School, student attendance, RYAS, court referrals, hearings, bullying/harassment concerns, and any other school matters.
  7. Collaborate with special education teacher, local school administration, and counselors on matters related to special education, IEPs, BIPs, FBAs, disciplining students in special education, gifted education, accommodations/modifications to the curriculum, and all other items that may fall under special/gifted education.
  8. Collaborate with school bookkeeper on matters related to finance, purchase orders, receipting monies, budgets, purchasing, and all other items that may fall under the finance department guidelines.
  9. Collaborate with the Technology Director, local school administration, and counselors on matters related to technology; including purchasing, implementation, repairs, and all other items that may fall under the Technology Director’s supervision.
  10. Supervise students.
  11. Supervise mentee and student teacher as assigned.
  12. Communicates, through written/electronic correspondence, with parents/guardians about student progress, concerns, and academic achievement.
  13. Collaborates with local school administration and counselors on ongoing assessments to monitor student progress, interprets and uses data for instructional planning and teaching, and program evaluation.
  14. Collaborates with local school administration and counselors to provide appropriate safety procedures in accordance with state and local guidelines.
  15. Participates in district meetings, state meetings, and other activities that relate to professional development and effective school instruction as approved by the school principal.
  16. Participates in the school improvement process and the implementation of school improvement plans, accreditation and accountability reports, and other required plans.
  17. Demonstrates high-expectations for self and for students, and creates an environment that has goals that are both rigorous and achievable.
  18. Participate in the evaluation process using state and locally approved evaluation tools.
  19. Demonstrates initiative to improve job performance and in areas of responsibility.
  20. Reports absenteeism and take leave in accordance to board policy and procedures. Prepares for substitute in accordance to board policy and school procedures.
  21. Meets with various stakeholders to communicate and develop partnerships to benefit the school and community.
  22. Communicates to local school administration about upcoming events and school activities pertaining to the school calendar.
  23. Manages the behavior of learning in the classroom and participates in the management of students in other areas of the school and school grounds.

SALARY:

Based on the St. Clair County School System Salary Schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 month, 10 month, or 12 month

Performance will be evaluated according to board policy.
