BASIC FUNCTION/DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Altus Schools is an educational model in which students in grades K-12 engage in blended learning instruction while working towards individualized course completion via a Pathways Personalized Education Plan (PPEP). The Altus Schools Educator is competent, energetic, and student-centered with exceptional classroom management and organizational skills. This position requires a dedicated individual who is able to motivate students, sets high expectations, employs a data-driven approach, embraces accountability, and is a team player.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

This position description accurately reflects the primary job elements and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, knowledge, or abilities.

  • Supports every student’s growth in all academic areas, including Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
  • Collaborates with the team to create, implement, monitor, and adjust students’ Pathways Personalized Education Plans (PPEPs) to support achievement of individual educational goals.
  • Utilizes a variety of formative and summative assessments to evaluate students’ standards mastery and progress.
  • Embodies an inclusive, student-centered approach that focuses on equitable access for all students.
  • Facilitates collaborative discussions with students and parents to address and adjust program goals.
  • Supervises, mentors, and evaluates Certificated Teacher Resources (CTRs).
  • Proctors local and state summative assessments in a focused, compliant testing environment.
  • Demonstrates evidence of team building, collaboration, creative problem solving, flexibility, conflict resolution, cultural sensitivity, and genuine care for each student.
  • Engages in professional learning opportunities to improve practices and outcomes.
  • Accesses multiple online and print-based curricular tools to support all students, including the needs of specific student groups.
  • Implements all elements of the English Learner plan to support language proficiency and growth.
  • Collaborates with Education Specialist on goals, progress, and needs of Special Education students.
  • Maintains compliance with all independent study requirements while meeting deadlines.
  • Accounts for school resources and ensures materials are properly cared for and returned in a timely manner.
  • Gains proficiency in various online academic support systems to track student progress and access real-time data.
  • Implements the MTSS process to engage all learners in the academic program.
  • Customizes academic plans based on information gained through student assessments and surveys.
  • Participates on a department with a focus on curriculum, college and career readiness, equity and inclusion, or data and technology systems integration.
  • Conducts home visits as necessary to enhance student engagement.
  • Creates and maintains community partnerships and participates in the organization’s marketing plan.
  • Develops, implements, and participates in regular marketing and community outreach activities to raise awareness of the school as a free public option.
  • Develops, implements, and participates in regular student retention activities and strategies to ensure ongoing academic engagement.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgement on issues that significantly impact student outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or changed with or without notice.
  • Maintains consistent and regular attendance.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge and experience with curriculum tools and instructional strategies.
  • Proficient with online educational platforms and virtual conferencing tools.
  • Self-starter who thrives on challenge and can multi-task.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience supporting student groups, including English Learners, Gifted students, Homeless/Foster youth, and Special Education students.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Clear or Preliminary California Single or Multi-Subject Teaching Credential.
  • CLAD Certification/EL Authorization.
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • TB Clearance.
  • Obtain Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance through the DOJ and FBI.
WORKING CONDITIONS

ENVIRONMENT: Indoor, office setting; exposure to computer screens.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Hearing and speaking to exchange information with students, staff, and parents; seeing to read, proofread, perform clerical tasks and periodic work on a computer screen; intermittent sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment; kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, to retrieve and store files and supplies; lifting light objects; driving a vehicle to attend visits at resource centers, external venues, and staff meetings.

LOCATION

208 Work Day Contract - 11 month; 100% onsite (Monday-Friday).

SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified applicants will first complete a brief work-styles/behavioral survey and a math assessment. Candidates who successfully complete this initial phase will be invited to a panel interview with School Administrators. Candidates recommended from the first interview will advance to a final interview with the Deputy Superintendent of School Services and Founding Director, and the Superintendent of School Services and Founder.

Please note that not all applicants will be invited to interview, and only those selected will be contacted regarding next steps. Hiring decisions are based on the full evaluation process, and we do not discuss our hiring decisions with applicants.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are eligible for coverage beginning the first day of the month following sixty (60) days of employment. The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, and life insurance, and a variety of employee-paid voluntary benefits. The benefits are 100% employer-paid for the employee and all eligible dependents.

This position contributes to CalSTRS retirement.
