Job summary

Connect Search, LLC partners with a Houston-based organization adding a Tax Specialist - State & Local Tax (SALT) to its Finance team. This newly created role offers ownership of SALT processes in a hands-on environment.

Responsibilities include managing SALT compliance, researching taxability and nexus, supporting excise and other indirect taxes, and working cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, AP, AR, Legal, IT, and Operations in a fully onsite role in Houston, TX.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of State & Local Tax (SALT) experience.
• Experience working across multiple state/local jurisdictions.
• Exposure to excise and other indirect taxes is a plus.

• Managing state and local sales & use tax compliance and filings
• Researching taxability, nexus requirements, and regulatory changes
• Supporting excise, gross receipts, property, and other indirect tax matters
• Handling tax reconciliations, notices, audit support, and documentation
• Reviewing transactions for appropriate tax treatment
• Supporting tax technology, automation, and process improvements
• Partnering directly with Finance leadership and other business functions

Connect Search is partnering exclusively with a growing, mid-sized organization in the Houston market that is looking to add a Tax Specialist - State & Local Tax (SALT) to its Finance team.

This is a newly created position and a great opportunity for someone who wants to take ownership of the SALT process within a smaller, hands-on environment while joining an organization that is continuing to grow.

What we’re looking for:

• 3+ years of State & Local Tax (SALT) experience
• Experience working across multiple state/local jurisdictions
• Exposure to excise and other indirect taxes is a plus
• Experience with tax technology such as Vertex, Avalara, Sovos, or similar systems
• Strong Excel and analytical skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, Business, or related field
• Comfortable owning processes and working cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, AP, AR, Procurement, Legal, IT, and Operations
