CPA Firm in the Los Angeles area is seeking a Tax Senior Manager to join a well-established, highly profitable team. This role offers a clear path to Partner and the opportunity to act as a technical tax expert while guiding staff and client service standards.

The candidate will perform technical tax reviews, manage larger returns, supervise preparers, and represent clients before tax authorities, with strong emphasis on staff development and process improvement.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation and research software programs.
  • Overtime is required during peak season; may exceed 55 hours/week.
  • 7–10 years' experience in public accounting with tax focus.
  • At least 2 years' experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
  • Minimum 1 year experience supervising tax preparers.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • Forty hours of continuing education required each year.
  • Current and valid CPA license required.
  • Member in good standing with the AICPA.
  • Master's degree in taxation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and examinations of any complexity.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in tax discipline or industry.
  • Manage larger tax returns and delegate to tax preparers.
  • Assume client service responsibility for clients worked with directly or as delegated from the Partner.
  • Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before authorities.
  • Develop staff through recruiting, evaluations, development training aids, and instructing in professional development programs.
  • Ensure smooth flow of returns through the preparation system for accurate, complete, and timely delivery.
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes.
  • Prepare other reports and projects as requested by partners.
  • Research and evaluate tax software for recommendations to partners.
  • Participate in firm practice development through referrals, community, and industry activities.

Overview

A well-established, highly profitable regional CPA firm is seeking a Tax Senior Manager to join its growing team. This role offers a clear path to Partner and the opportunity to serve as a technical tax expert while helping guide the firm's staff and client service standards.

What you'll do
  • Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in discipline or industry
  • Assume full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate to tax preparers as needed
  • Assume client service responsibility for clients worked with directly or as delegated from the Partner
  • Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent clients before appropriate taxing authorities
  • Develop trained staff through recruiting, performance evaluations, development training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs
  • Ensure smooth flow of tax returns through the preparation system for accurate, complete, and timely delivery
  • Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes
  • Prepare other reports and projects as requested by partners
  • Research and evaluate tax preparation and tax research software for recommendation to partners
  • Participate in firm practice development through referral sources, community, and industry activities
Required qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws
  • Proficiency in computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs
  • Occasional overtime work required throughout the year; heavy overtime from January 1 to April 15, may exceed 55 hours per week
  • Seven to ten years' experience in public accounting, demonstrating proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research
  • At least two (2) years' experience representing clients before taxing authorities
  • Minimum one (1) year experience supervising and directing work of tax preparers
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required
  • Minimum of forty hours of continuing education required each year
  • Current and valid certified public accountant's license required
  • Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs
Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree in taxation preferred
