Job summary

Baker Tilly US LLP in Houston is seeking a Tax Senior Associate to deliver industry-focused tax advisory and compliance services to middle-market clients. You will engage directly with clients, providing strategic tax planning and execution across federal, state, and international matters.

Qualifications

  • A 4-year degree is required for the position and CPA or JD eligibility is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of tax experience in a public accounting environment.
  • CPA or JD license preferred; ability to sit for CPA and/or Bar exams can be advantageous.
  • U.S. work authorization is preferred; sponsorship may be limited.

Responsibilities

  • Be a trusted member of the engagement team providing federal tax compliance and advisory services to middle‑market clients.
  • Provide tax compliance and advisory services to S‑corporations, partnerships, individuals and corporations.
  • Participate in tax research projects, draft IRS responses and address inquiries.
  • Collaborate with leaders on corporate and flow‑through taxation projects such as ASC740 and accounting methods.
  • Develop client recommendations and share with leadership for discussion and strategy.
  • Coordinate with specialty tax practices on complex state/local, international and credits matters.
  • Learn and grow from on‑the‑job coaching and firm‑wide learning initiatives.
  • Network and build strong internal and client relationships; support team development.
  • Contribute to Baker Tilly Care and Teach program and promote work‑life balance through culture.
  • Participate in team activities and outings that foster camaraderie.

What You Will Do
  • Be a trusted member of the engagement team providing various federal tax compliance and consulting services to industry specific clients:
  • Provide tax compliance and advisory services to S-corporations, partnerships, individuals and corporations ranging from middle market to multinational companies
  • Participate in tax research projects on a variety of tax issues, help to draft IRS responses and address other tax authority inquiries
  • Team with leaders on special projects in various areas of corporate and flow through taxation such as accounting methods and ASC740
  • Develop recommendations for the client to consider and share with leadership to discuss and strategize
  • Communicate and team with specialty tax practices on complicated tax matters in the state and local, high net worth, international, research and development along with credits and incentives area
  • Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs
  • Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and with your clients
  • Support the growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy, helping associates meet their professional goals

Minimum Qualifications
  • 4-year degree
  • 3 years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or law, or a related degree in business, and sufficient course work and credits to sit for the CPA and/or Bar exam in the state you are being considered
  • CPA or JD license preferred
  • Two (2)+ years of experience providing federal tax compliance and consulting services in a public accounting firm
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of time management, communication, interpersonal skills, relationship building, collaboration, and problem solving
  • Strong leadership, project management, organizational and analytical skills, initiative, adaptability
  • Microsoft Suite skills
  • Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship preferred

The pay rate range for this job position is $78,000.00 to $103,940.00. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant’s skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees/certifications, work arrangements and geographic location.
