Tax Senior

Description

The Tax Senior provides tax compliance, accounting, analytical, and documentation support to the family office and corporate tax department. This position is responsible for preparing and organizing tax workpapers, schedules, reconciliations, filings, financial data, and supporting documentation to help ensure accurate and timely completion of tax compliance, reporting, and planning initiatives.

The ideal candidate has approximately 2-3 years of income tax experience, preferably in public accounting, with exposure to business and individual tax returns, workpapers, tax research, and client or internal tax deliverables. The role requires strong organization, attention to detail, comfort working with deadlines, advanced Excel skills, and practical familiarity with technology-enabled tools, including Microsoft Copilot, to support research, documentation, reporting, and workflow efficiency.

Essential Functions
  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
  • Organize tax return information, workpapers, schedules, reconciliations, filings, and supporting documentation for corporate, partnership, trust, individual, and other tax filings, as applicable.
  • Support tax payment calculations, estimated tax payments, extensions, compliance calendars, filing deadlines, notices, open items, and recurring compliance deliverables.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Payroll, Treasury, external tax advisors, auditors, financial institutions, and other third parties to gather, validate, and organize tax-sensitive information required for filings and related matters.
  • Perform tax research on federal and state tax laws and regulations.
  • Support tax planning projects by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, researching issues, and analyzing tax impacts for review by tax leadership.
  • Maintain organized documentation repositories, tax files, workpapers, trackers, internal reporting tools, procedures, checklists, controls, and workflows.
  • Support external audits, tax notices, inquiries, and special tax-related projects as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive financial, tax, personal, and business information.
  • Works safely always and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of federal and state income tax compliance requirements, including tax workpapers, schedules, reconciliations, filings, supporting documentation, and compliance calendars.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles with the ability to review financial statements.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and apply tax laws, regulations, notices, form instructions, and other guidance.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies, risks, and process gaps.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, competing priorities, and assigned tax matters while seeking guidance on complex or judgmental issues.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling confidential information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external advisors, and leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear summaries, reports, schedules, and recommendations for review.
  • Strong technical aptitude with the ability to learn and use reporting systems, shared file systems, workflow tools, and AI-enabled productivity tools such as Microsoft Copilot.
  • Ability to thrive in a complex, fast-paced environment and adapt to new processes, systems, and tax matters.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, data validations with large data sets, reconciliations and reporting tools such as dashboard and charts.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • CPA eligible, actively pursuing CPA license, or CPA.
  • 2-3 years of relevant tax experience, preferably in public accounting, corporate tax, family office, or another multi-entity environment.
  • Experience preparing tax workpapers, schedules, reconciliations, filings, supporting documentation, and internal reports.
  • Experience supporting federal and state tax compliance for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, or other entities, including estimates, extensions, notices, audits, research, and tax-related projects.
  • Experience maintaining compliance calendars, trackers, workpapers, and documentation repositories.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of tax experience in public accounting.
  • Experience with project management tools, shared file systems, Adobe Professional, Power BI, Monday.com, SharePoint, Microsoft Copilot, or similar systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Travel:

  • Some in-town travel may be required.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position involves extended periods of stationary work and computer use, with occasional standing, walking, stooping, and verbal or written communication.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move files, documents, or office materials.

Work Environment:

  • This job is generally performed in a professional office environment at least four days per week.
  • May work extended hours during peak tax filing periods, special projects, audits, or other time-sensitive deadlines.
