Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Tax Manager for its New York and Washington, DC offices. You will deliver tax and advisory services to private wealth clients, coach staff, and help build the business with leadership. This is a fast‑growing firm offering upward trajectory and flexible work options.

You will supervise client engagements, ensure compliance, and identify process improvements while maintaining excellent client service and relationships across offices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a 4-year degree; CPA, EA or Law License preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience in tax, accounting or advisory services.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's in accounting, master's or advanced degree.

Responsibilities

  • Be an advisor delivering tax, accounting and advisory services to private wealth clients.
  • Oversee accounting, bookkeeping and financial statement preparation or compilation.
  • Review client accounting records and discuss findings with clients.
  • Deliver excellent client service, ensuring responsiveness and accuracy.
  • Lead client engagements and drive process improvements and efficiency.
  • Manage client relationships and assist team leaders with staffing, billing and profitability targets.
  • Delegate work effectively, set goals and meet deadlines for delivery.

What You Will Do
  • Be a trusted member of the team providing various tax, accounting and advisory services to private wealth clients including ultra high net worth families, closely held businesses and trust and estate work
  • Oversee and provide services pertaining to accounting, bookkeeping and prepared or compiled financials.
  • Review and analyze accounting records and/or reporting with clients, provide analysis and consultation, and communicate with client to discuss accounting and business matters
  • Deliver best-in-class customer service to clients at all times, with an emphasis on being responsive, timely, professional, and accurate
  • Lead and plan client engagements, and continuously evaluate processes and procedures within the client services and implementation functions with emphasis on implementing efficiencies and identification of internal control issues
  • Provide recommendations for business and process improvements based upon knowledge gained relative to the client’s operations, processes, and business objectives
  • Manage and build client relationships, act as liaison to address and resolve client issues, and assist team leaders in researching and providing additional services to client
  • Effectively delegate and oversee the work efforts by setting goals, providing resources, removing obstacles, and scheduling deadlines to meet client expectations for delivery
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, state, and federal tax practices and laws
  • Assist with managing client engagement staffing, billings/collections, and ensure client profitability targets are met
  • Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and the community
  • Invest in your professional development individually and through participation in firm wide learning and development programs
  • Support the growth and development of team members through the Baker Tilly Care and Teach philosophy, helping associates meet their professional goals

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • 4-year degree
  • CPA, EA or Law License
  • Five (5) years of experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, master's or advanced degree desirable
  • Five (5)+ years of experience providing federal and state tax compliance, accounting and advisory services in a professional services firm
  • Two (2)+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates
  • Experience working with Private Wealth and family office clients a plus
  • Demonstrated management, analytical, organization, interpersonal, project management, communication skills
  • Ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, demonstrate commitment to continuous learning in order to stay current regarding applicable strategies, see the "big picture" as well as the details, display appropriate ethical knowledge and commitment, and exhibit a sense of urgency and commitment to quality and the timely completion of projects
  • Ability to work without sponsorship preferred

The pay rate ranges for this job position are listed below. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

In Uniondale, NY and Washington, DC: the pay range is $116,250 to $159,640

In New York, NY: the pay range is $126,500 to $166,300
