Job summary

Career Legal in Charlotte, NC seeks an experienced Tax Manager to lead engagements, supervise a tax team, review complex returns, and guide planning strategies. This role reports to a Tax Partner and is a key step toward Principal.

You will manage a portfolio of individual, business, trust, and exempt organization clients, mentor seniors and staff, and collaborate on process improvement and growth initiatives. Hybrid work in Charlotte with busy-season hours.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license in NC or eligible for practice privileges, or EA status.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of individual, business, trust, and exempt organization clients from engagement through delivery.
• Review federal and North Carolina returns (Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, 1120, 1041, 990) for accuracy.
• Lead tax planning discussions and advise on entity structure, succession, and multi-state issues.
• Lead complex tax research and prepare clear memos to support recommendations.
• Represent clients before the IRS and NC Department of Revenue in notices, examinations, and appeals.
• Manage workflow, budgets, deadlines, and realization across engagements, especially during busy season.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate seniors, staff, and interns.
• Collaborate with firm leadership on process improvement and quality control.
• Support business development through client referrals and proposals.
• Stay current on tax law changes and disseminate updates to team and clients.
• Represent the firm in the Charlotte business community.
