Responsibilities

• Lead tax planning engagements, identify tax-saving opportunities, and provide proactive guidance to clients year-round
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, explaining strategy and keeping them informed
• Supervise, delegate to, and mentor tax staff
• Respond to tax authority notices and assist with tax research and technical memos
• Collaborate with accounting and advisory teams on cross-functional client needs
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and client relationship management

A well-established, client-focused advisory firm is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to join its western Milwaukee-based team. Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee and review complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, trusts, and other entities
• Lead tax planning engagements, identify tax-saving opportunities, and provide proactive guidance to clients throughout the year
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients — fielding questions, walking through strategy, and making sure clients feel informed and well taken care of
• Supervise, delegate to, and mentor tax staff while supporting their professional development
• Respond to tax authority notices and assist with tax research and technical memos
• Collaborate with the accounting and advisory teams on cross-functional client needs
• Participate in process improvement initiatives and contribute to client relationship management

Required Qualifications:

• Active CPA license required
• Minimum 5 years of progressive public accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities
• Strong background at a regional CPA firm or higher preferred
• Broad technical proficiency across individuals, partnerships, corporations, and other entity types
• Advanced tax planning capabilities with the ability to identify strategies and optimize client outcomes
• Clear, professional communication skills — this role is client-facing and advisory-heavy
• Proficiency with tax preparation and research software; strong Excel and general technology skills
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management abilities
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's in Taxation is a plus
• Experience working with entrepreneurs and growing businesses highly desirable
