Our client, a rapidly growing national wealth management and financial services firm, is seeking a Tax Manager to join its expanding tax function. This highly visible role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of tax responsibilities, including state and local tax compliance, income tax provision, mergers and acquisitions support, partnership taxation, and tax process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
State & Local Tax (SALT) Compliance
- Manage multi-state tax compliance across 20+ jurisdictions, including partnership, franchise, gross receipts, and business tax filings.
- Prepare and review quarterly estimated tax payments and apportionment calculations.
- Oversee city, municipal, and local tax filing requirements.
- Respond to and resolve federal, state, and local tax notices.
- Monitor nexus requirements and state registrations as the organization expands into new jurisdictions.
- Manage sales tax, personal property tax, and other state and local compliance obligations.
Income Tax Provision (ASC 740)
- Prepare and maintain annual income tax provision calculations and deferred tax schedules.
- Perform purchase accounting and deferred tax analyses related to acquisitions.
- Maintain documentation related to uncertain tax positions (UTPs).
- Partner with external auditors and internal accounting teams during audits and provision reviews.
Mergers & Acquisitions Tax Support
- Conduct tax due diligence for acquisition targets and identify potential tax exposures.
- Prepare Form 8594 filings related to asset acquisitions.
- Evaluate the tax impact of mergers, financing arrangements, and other strategic transactions.
Partnership & Entity Tax
- Manage K-1 preparation and distribution for partners and equity holders.
- Maintain capital account and tax basis schedules.
- Coordinate with external advisors regarding federal and state tax compliance matters.
Tax Process Improvement & Planning
- Prepare tax forecasts and liability projections to support budgeting and strategic planning.
- Identify tax credits, savings opportunities, and operational efficiencies.
- Evaluate opportunities to insource outsourced tax functions and support the development of a scalable tax department.
- Monitor tax law changes and assess their impact on the organization.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Active CPA license.
- 5+ years of tax experience.
- Strong federal and multi-state tax compliance experience.
- Experience preparing ASC 740 income tax provisions.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Public accounting experience, preferably with a Big 4 or national accounting firm.
- Experience supporting tax due diligence and M&A transactions.
- Background in financial services, wealth management, private equity, or related industries.
- Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, Finance, or MBA.
