Job summary

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice law in California.
• 5+ years of civil litigation experience.
• Experience with complex litigation, including financial transactions.
• Experience with constitutional issues and/or statutory interpretation.
• Experience with complex motion practice and/or appeals.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong judgment.
• Excellent written and oral communication and advocacy skills.
• Experience with e-discovery and document review tools.
• Familiarity with California civil procedure and San Francisco local rules.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Defend the City in tax refund lawsuits.
• Handle cases involving local taxes and large monetary disputes.
• Interpret federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with auditors and appraisers in the Treasurer and Tax Collector and the Assessor-Recorder offices.
• Represent the City in court appearances and oral arguments.
• Manage discovery, depositions, motions, and appeals.
