Job summary

Honkamp, P.C. is seeking a tax intern to support real-world client work while applying classroom concepts. You will work with Honkamp teams to document processes and contribute to tax projects in a collaborative, learning-focused environment.

You’ll prep returns at entry levels, learn tax workflows, and gain familiarity with software used for scanning, verification and data entry. This role offers growth toward a full-time opportunity.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in an accounting-related field.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365.
• Ability to learn basic office equipment.
• Strong time management, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Able to sit and work at a computer for extended periods in a shared office.

Responsibilities

• Effectively document work.
• Prep level 3 and 4 tax returns.
• Learn tax processes and scan/assembly/verification procedures.
• Understand basic income tax returns, extensions and deadlines.
• Assist with data entry and maintaining tax-related records.

A Typical Day in the Life:

As a tax intern, you will work alongside Honkamp team members by applying the skills learned in the classroom to real-world, business-impacting projects and provide tax proficiency to your assigned section.

Responsibilities may include:

• Effectively document work.
• Prep level 3 and 4 returns.
• Develop an understanding of tax process, becoming efficient in scan/assembly/verification procedures.
• Develop an understanding of basic income tax returns and various tax extensions and deadlines.
• Assisting with data entry and maintaining tax-related records.
• Assist in administrative functions.
• Become familiar with various scan, tax, workflow, verification, and other software.
• Act as an ambassador to the universities.

Qualifications:

• No prior experience or training required -- candidates should be pursuing a degree in an accounting-related field.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365.
• Experience with, or ability to learn, the operation of basic office equipment.
• Demonstrated skills in the areas of time management, communication and problem-solving.
• Prolonged periods of working on a computer and ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (e.g. sitting at a desk).
• Ability to work in a shared office environment with moderate noise levels.
