Job summary

Nextera Search is seeking a Tax Director for a professional services firm on Long Island. The role focuses on leading tax strategies, supervising staff, and strengthening client relationships across diverse tax matters.

You will work closely with partners to uphold best practices, manage audits, and drive practice development while mentoring the tax team in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• 8+ years of public accounting tax experience.
• Proficiency in CCH Axcess products.
• Business knowledge across industries.
• Experience with QuickBooks, Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Significant supervisory experience.
• Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review tax returns for complex individual, trust, partnership, corporate, and foreign clients.
• Work with tax partners to ensure best practices for tax processes and technology.
• Develop new and existing client relationships and networks.
• Interact with client attorneys, taxing agents, bankers, and other third parties.
• Research tax issues and advise partners on client matters.
• Handle federal, state, and local tax audits.
• Train and supervise staff and provide performance reviews.
• Mentor staff and contribute to firm management.
• Assist with practice development and firm growth initiatives.
• Cultivate contacts and relationships to expand the client base.

A Professional Services Firm on Long Island is actively seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join their staff as their new Tax Director.

Responsibilities

• Review tax returns for complex individual, trust, partnership, corporate, and foreign tax clients


• Work with tax partner to ensure best practices for tax processes, including technology


• Build new and develop existing multiple client relationships


• Deal directly with client’s attorneys, taxing agents, bankers, and other third-parties


• Research tax issues and consult with partners on various client-related matters


• Handle federal and state and local tax audits


• Train and supervise staff, evaluate staff work, and provide performance review


• Mentor and motivate staff


• Assist and participate with the practice development and firm management


• Network to develop a list of contacts and begin cultivating relationships


• Complete other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA license preferred.


• 8+ years of public accounting experience in tax


• Proficiency in CCH Axcess products


• Business knowledge and understanding of a variety of industries
