Job summary

Municipality of Anchorage Finance Department seeks a detail-oriented Tax Compliance Associate to perform desk audits of self-reported taxes and oversee license applications. The role requires strong verbal and written communication and adherence to confidentiality.

Based in Anchorage, the position offers municipal hours with potential telecommuting after probation at management discretion. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or an associate/bachelor's degree in accounting

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
Associates degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline with 3+ years accounting experience including AR.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline with 1+ year AR experience.

Responsibilities

Conduces desk audits of self-reported taxes to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with tax codes.
Determine if late penalties are warranted and pursue collection of unpaid taxes, penalties, and interest.
Process license applications and communicate with owners/managers about required compliance actions.
Maintain and preserve source documents; ensure confidentiality of documents and work product; distribute only to authorized personnel.
Assist with other duties as assigned by department.
