The Tax and Consulting team serves as a partner in building lifetime relationships with clients. The Tax & Consulting Supervisor assists our wealth strategy specialists (tax, planning, and consulting) and wealth advisors with delivering our Ideal Futures Process to clients. This comprehensive process addresses all areas of a client’s tax planning and wealth management needs.

The Tax & Consulting Supervisor is responsible for oversight of tax preparation services and the ongoing training, development, coaching and supervision of the Staff Accountants, T&C, Senior Accountants, T&C, and Tax Interns. This position is also responsible for providing guidance to the team to meet the tax preparation needs of internal and external clients. The Tax & Consulting Supervisor must embrace and represent the Savant philosophies and values. The Tax and Consulting Supervisor can expect to focus in the following areas:

Tax

  • Training, development and oversight of Staff Accountants, T&C, Senior Accountants, T&C, Tax Interns and Wealth Strategy Team Associates. This includes training, development, and ongoing oversight.
  • Remain current on industry changes to effectively train, coach, and manage the consistent implementation of these changes.
  • Proactively communicate with clients and team members.
  • Review moderate to complex individual tax returns, along with fiduciary, partnership and corporate returns
  • Review individual tax analyses and assist with the review of various financial planning analyses (i.e., social security analyses, stock option analyses, Roth conversion analyses, etc.)
  • Provide research and analysis for complex tax transactions & topics, and communicate results
  • Assist with implementation of tax planning and consulting opportunities
  • Provide tax expertise to clients and others in the firm
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
  • Maintain team approach by assisting and filling in for others.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Business Services

  • Review monthly financial statements, including bank reconciliations, payroll processing, journal entries, etc.
  • Review various quarterly and annual compliance reports.
  • Support managers and attend client meetings, as needed.

Financial Planning

  • Gather, organize and synthesize client data and review client financial statements, tax returns, estate planning documents and all other information necessary to develop a financial plan or other various analyses
  • Review and deliver various tax and financial planning analyses (i.e., tax, social security , insurance, stock option, Roth conversion, and pension analyses)

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Select, supervise, empower, coach, develop, and retain a team of qualified individuals through effective hiring, employee development, performance management, succession planning, and recognition.
  • Collaboratively set challenging but realistic goals aligned with departmental and organizational objectives. Work with employees on a plan to achieve their goals.
  • Oversee and lead staff, including hiring, assigning work, and recommending salary increases, promotions, transfers, demotions, or terminations.
  • Maintain open and effective communication, ensuring that team members are informed, engaged, and aligned with firm updates and strategic changes.
  • Actively engage in ongoing coaching, providing regular, constructive feedback and guidance to foster professional growth and improvement.
  • When managing subordinate supervisors, provide leadership, guidance, and resources needed to ensure they are effective in their management roles.

A couple things to note about our Tax and Consulting Supervisor position:

  • This position will be located our of either our Cedar Rapids or Iowa City, Iowa offices based on candidate preference.
  • The schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm.

The Tax and Consulting Supervisor position typically requires the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Master’s in taxation or other advanced degree is a plus
  • 4 - 8 years of experience in the tax department of a CPA firm, or equivalent experience.
  • Pursuing or active CPA license (preferred) or EA license is preferred
  • CFP or Series 65 certification is preferred
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, as well as tax analysis software is preferred

The expected base salary range for this role is $81,800 - $112,500.However, final base pay will be carefully determined based on several factors, including responsibilities, job-related skills, relevant experience, geographic location, and market conditions.
