Job summary

Mauldin & Jenkins, LLC is seeking candidates for their Internship Program in Baton Rouge, LA. Students pursuing an accounting degree will work on audits, management services, or tax return preparations for tax clients.

Interns will gain hands-on exposure to internal controls, tax issues, and client engagements while developing technical skills and professional conduct. Travel may be required depending on client needs.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a college degree with a major or concentration in accounting.
• Students must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Overnight travel may be necessary.
• Knowledge of the Firm is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls.
• Test compliance with internal controls when evaluation indicates reliability.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and investigate discrepancies.
• Examine client reconciliations of subsidiary accounts to controls.
• Schedule computations of accruals and document underlying support.
• Prepare schedules of write-offs of prepaid expenses and deferred charges.
• Review data input, identify and resolve technical tax issues, and assist in tax preparations.
• Identify, research, and assess various tax issues and provide information to senior staff.
• Meet deadlines for completion of tax returns and other projects.
• Additional duties as assigned.
