Job summary

Capital Region BOCES is seeking a Talent Acquisition & Retention Specialist to lead recruitment and onboarding across districts in New York. You will partner with divisions, communicate with candidates, and guide hires through offers and onboarding to build a strong workforce.

You will act as the hiring expert, using our ATS to align qualifications with civil service and NYS Education requirements, ensure compliance, and promote our employment opportunities at public events.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of HR recruitment, benefits, onboarding experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with school district operations or NYS civil service is a plus.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

As the Talent Acquisition & Retention Specialist, you will be our organization’s primary resource during the recruitment process for both candidates and managers. You will play an integral role as managers recruit to fill their various open positions. Day to day, you can expect the following:

• Your day will be busy partnering with our divisions to understand their recruitment needs and work to identify qualified applicants for their review.
• You will lead candidate communication strategies across phone and email to deliver a personalized experience for each candidate. This includes promoting employment opportunities, answering inquiries and facilitating the job offer process and guiding new hires through their onboarding journey.
• You will use your analytical skills to review the qualifications of applicants, ensuring managers receive a high quality candidate pool that meet the required qualification criteria set forth by either our local civil service commission or the NYS Department of Education.
• You will become the subject matter expert for hiring managers, working directly with them as they utilize our ATS and execute defined recruitment processes to satisfy their staffing needs in the most effective and efficient way possible.
• You will develop and apply organizational tracking skills to ensure compliance on various employment conditions such as mandated training completions, certification requirements and issuances.
• You will represent Capital Region BOCES at public recruitment events, driving candidates to our job postings and promoting the value of employment with our organization.
• You will work as part of a collaborative team and gain hands‑on exposure to other key HR functions, including employee relations, civil service administration, benefits and personnel transactions as they relate to school district operations.

What You Bring To Our Team

• 1-2 years of experience conducting HR functions such as recruitment, benefits administration, workers compensation, employee onboarding or staff training & development. This is also a great position for a college graduate looking to launch a career in human resources.
• Strong communication & organizational skills with ability to clearly convey detailed information.
• Ability to enthusiastically represent our organization at public recruitment events.
• Keen analytical skills and ability to solve problems.
• Experience working with school district operations, NYS civil service employment protocols and/or with educational professionals is ideal but not required.
• Passion to help others, great customer service skills and a personal drive for continuous development of your skills and your team.
