Meet HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding

With more than 25,000 employees – including third-, fourth- and even fifth-generation shipbuilders – HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division is the largest industrial employer in Virginia. We’re the sole designer, builder and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. Our diverse and innovative team of professionals ranges from skilled trades to project managers, engineers and software developers to solution architects, technical subject matter experts, and system users. We collaborate together at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of the most powerful and survivable naval ships in the world.

The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking an experienced and skilled recruiter to join our team to support hiring for trades positions. This position will be responsible for recruiting prospective employees, while selecting and hiring top talent in the trades industry. This position acts as a central point of contact to our applicants and hiring managers on matters related to the full talent acquisition process. The environment is very fast paced, so the ability to multi-task will be important as you review applications, conduct interviews, check references, extend formal job offers, work with outside agencies and vendors, attend hiring events, etc. We frequently partner with the business on tactical and strategic talent planning and we are the driving force for matching candidate skills with critical trade positions. The candidate experience is important to us, so we are looking for another positive communicator to help highlight why NNS is the employer of choice. Plan now to positively impact the workforce by developing connections with candidates and stakeholders to efficiently and effectively achieve goals, improve the score and own the outcome.

We win or lose as a team, so experience working effectively in a team setting is important. We answer the call, so working with a sense of urgency and being highly responsive will keep us connected. We solve problems, so critical thinking skills and a willingness to collaborate to find the best solution is how we will win.

Conducts interviews to recruit prospective employees and refers job applicants to specific job openings. Evaluates employment factors such as job experience, education and training, skills, knowledge and abilities, physical and personal qualifications, and other data pertinent to classification, selection, and referral. Prepares rating on applicants, makes recommendations on starting salaries, and provides applicants with information on the company. May administer tests and interpret results, check references, arrange transportation of selected applicants, extend formal job offers, work with outside agencies and vendors, etc.
