Job summary

Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is seeking a Tactical Systems Engineer in Mount Laurel, NJ to join the Warfare Systems team. You will architect and refactor mission-critical legacy software into a modern microservices-based stack for cloud-native and tactical-edge deployment, supporting Navy surface and unmanned platforms.

The role requires a BS in CS or Systems Engineering, 5+ years of experience, and willingness to travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of time.
• Experience with combat system design and software (AEGIS/SSDS) preferred.
• Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and/or Java; Linux environments and shell scripting.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and test complex software in C, C++, Python, JavaScript, and Java across environments.
• Refactor legacy monolithic code to modern microservices-based architecture.
• Assess and deconstruct Navy tactical system code for surface warfare platforms.
• Explore AI/ML, distributed processing, and modeling for next-gen solutions.
• Elicit requirements from customers and document agreements; present progress to leadership.
• Develop software architecture with hardware/software interfaces and perform reviews.
