Job summary

The Boeing Company is seeking a Tactical Software Engineering Manager in a 100% onsite role in Berkeley, MO. The candidate will lead a diverse team of embedded software engineers, drive EVM and agile practices, and coordinate with systems engineering, QA, and stakeholders to meet program objectives.

Applicants must hold an active Secret clearance or be able to obtain Top Secret, with SAP access when required, and possess a Bachelor’s Degree. Relocation is available for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret US security clearance required or ability to obtain Top Secret post-start.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering or technical field.
  • At least 1 year in a leadership role leading software teams.
  • 3+ years of real-time, near real-time, or embedded systems experience.
  • Ability to obtain access to SAP and related programs.

Tactical Software Engineering Manager

Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of embedded software engineers performing engineering and technical activities
  • Proactively assess and manage software staffing needs; create a healthy talent and skill pipeline to meet project resource timelines
  • Drive technical planning and execution, including analyzing and responding to team agile metrics, Earned Value Management (EVM) duties to ensure the team consistently meets or exceeds planned cost, schedule, technical performance, safety, and quality targets
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, quality assurance, coworkers, customers, to ensure seamless integration of software components, meet all requirements, and efficient and accurate communication throughout the project lifecycle
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining composure and professionalism in stressful situations, with a strong sense of cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Provide guidance and direction to team members to ensure adherence to Software Engineering Design Practices, Independent Verification & Validation, and other engineering excellence initiatives
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and professional growth within the team
  • Engage with stakeholders, including customers and regulatory bodies, to communicate project status, address concerns, and ensure alignment with program objectives
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
  • Position requires an Active Secret US Security Clearance and ability to obtain Top Secret post-start for which the US Government requires US Citizenship
  • Ability to obtain access to Special Access Programs (SAP)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Candidates must have at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership
  • 1 or more years of experience managing/leading diverse software teams
  • 3+ experience in real-time, near real-time, or embedded systems
  • 1+ years of experience working on and/or leading agile teams
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/ Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Background in Mission Systems engineering development activities
  • Proficiency with DevSecOps and modern Software Development practices
  • Strong communication skills and a natural leadership style that inspires action, motivates excellence, and fosters innovation, while effectively interfacing with senior leadership, customers, and regulatory agencies
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and deliver results on time and within budget
  • Previous experience in an engineering management and/or team lead position

Pay & Benefits:

Summary Pay Range: $160,650 - $217,350
