Job summary

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized Systems Test Engineer to perform system-level verification testing for our VTOL electric aircraft. The role will split time between Santa Cruz, CA and Marina, CA, contributing to ITLs and HAL test activities.

You will develop test procedures, analyze data, and work with cross-functional teams to drive design improvements toward FAA certification.

Qualifications

• BS in Aerospace, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of industry experience.
• Experience running system-level tests in a lab environment.
• Experience with Instrumentation, Data Acquisition Systems and Sensors.
• Experience developing and executing Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) tests.
• Strong analytical background.
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and execute system level verification testing in ITLs.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized, passionate individual to join our System Testing team. As part of this team, you will perform systems level testing for our VTOL electric aircraft. The data gathered in our integrated test labs will drive hardware and software design improvements and accelerate the path to production-ready components. Your work will play a crucial role in ensuring our aircraft meet the rigorous safety and performance standards required for FAA certification. This position will split time between our Systems Test facilities in Santa Cruz, CA and Marina, CA.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and execute system level verification testing in the integrated test labs (ITLs)
• Perform the responsibility of Pilot-in-the-Loop and Test Directors, and train others
• Write Formal Test Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures
• Develop and maintain configuration control of the ITLs’ hardware & software, as well as calibration records
• Drive Root Cause Corrective Actions with cross-functional Subject Matter Experts
• Develop tools & processes to ensure safe, fast and repeatable test execution
• Analyze data collected during the aforementioned tests to generate reports that provide quantifiable feedback to engineering teams, allowing them to optimize their designs

Required

• B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of work experience in relevant industry
• Experience running system level tests in a lab environment
• Experience with Instrumentation, Data Acquisition Systems and Sensors
• Experience developing and executing system level Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) tests
• Strong analytical background
• Excellent problem solving and communication skills

Desired

• Experience with high-voltage power-electronics
• Experience with LabVIEW and Veristand
• Experience with industrial test laboratory environments, procedures and safety
• Polarion requirements and test case documentation experience a plus
• Experience with aircraft certification (ARP 4754, DO-178), regulatory requirements, compliance testing, aircraft software engineering processes, and test verification

Compensation

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $104,000 - $183,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
