Job summary

Axiom Space in Houston seeks a System Safety Engineer to drive hazard analyses and safety assessments for the Axiom Station and related missions. You will collaborate with systems engineers, V&V teams, and program leadership to ensure safety is built into every lifecycle stage.

The role requires strong problem-solving, high accountability, and the ability to operate in a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary environment while delivering rigorous safety results and timely risk mitigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in system safety or related field.
  • Experience developing and reviewing hazard analyses, fault trees, and safety assessments.
  • Ability to analyze flight systems to identify hazards and mitigate hazards.
  • Proven ability to work in fast-moving environments with tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct system level hazard analyses for the Axiom Station, AxEVAS, or payloads on missions.
  • Conduct Safety Analyses and document results (PHA, SHA, Hazard Tracking, FHA, Fault Tree, Safety Assessments).
  • Generate Hazard Reports for program leadership.
  • Assist with defining and maintaining system level control strategies, including FDIR and hazardous mitigation.
  • Participate in System Safety Working Groups, Safety Review Panels, and Change Review Board meetings.
  • Coordinate with V&V personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements are tested.
  • Perform anomaly and nonconformance analysis and verification of resolutions.
  • Develop S&MA reports/presentations to S&MA and program leadership.
  • Provide safety support across all Axiom programs.

POSITION SUMMARY

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducting system level hazard analysis for the Axiom Station, Axiom Exploration Extravehicular Activity System (AxEVAS) or payloads on Private Astronaut Missions to the International Space Station (ISS)
  • Conducting Safety Analyses and documenting results (Preliminary Hazards Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Hazard Tracking, Functional Hazard, Fault Tree, and Safety Assessments)
  • Generation of Hazard Reports
  • Assist with the definition and maintenance of system level control strategies, including Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) strategies, hazardous mitigation, and system
  • Participate in and support the System Safety Working Groups, Safety Review Panels, Technical Interchange and Change Review Board meetings
  • Coordinating with verification and validation (V&V) personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements are tested at an acceptable level of rigor
  • Perform anomaly and nonconformance analysis, tracking and resolution verification
  • Develop S&MA reports/presentations to S&MA and program leadership
  • Provide support to all Axiom programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Communicating project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership
  • Implementing and maintaining agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform additional job duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, 2+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience developing and reviewing hazard analyses, fault trees, and safety assessments
  • Analyzing and evaluating flight systems to identify hazards and propose actions to mitigate hazards
  • Planning, performing analyses, and reporting results
  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Uses good judgement to problem-solve proactively, positively impacting hard challenges
  • Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines with high quality results

Requirements

This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
