Overview

The engineers on Hussmann’s reliability team are responsible for ensuring that our products exceed our customers’ expectations for robustness, durability, and reliability. We are looking for talented contributors who enjoy working on revolutionary products and improving them through creation and execution of comprehensive test suites, identification and elimination of failure modes, and collaboration with design teams to drive product improvements. The System Reliability Engineer will collaborate with platform development, manufacturing quality, global sourcing, new technology, and marketing groups to deliver industry-leading quality and reliability. The Systems Reliability Engineer develops the reliability requirements for both new products in development and existing product platforms; establishes reliability programs; and performs appropriate analyses and tasks to ensure that products meet all requirements. This role is responsible for analyzing preliminary engineering-design concepts for new and existing products to recommend design or test methods for attaining specified product operational reliability requirements. This individual analyzes failure data and proposes design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements. The reliability Engineer works across disciplines and with cross-functional teams to understand customer usage and site factors impacting reliability.

Responsibilities
  • Participates in engineering design reviews and program discussions to ensure plans to avoid/mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with internal subject matter experts to drive the development and implementation of reliability methods, procedures and equipment that ensure superior & flawless Product Launches
  • Utilize warranty/reliability data to establish program reliability targets in support of overall cost of quality business objectives.
  • Promote the use of reliability techniques to ensure root causes of issues are identified and addressed.
  • Develop/review reliability test plans/protocols, Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), to achieve system reliability and meet acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct reliability tests such as HALT testing, Key Life Testing, and Step Over Stress testing.
  • Monitor and analyze failure data (Weibull analysis) and furnish reliability test reports; conduct failure investigations, root cause analysis and propose solutions.
  • Perform complex electromechanical analysis and problem solving on a routine basis.
  • Make design recommendations to improve reliability and resolve conflicting requirements.
  • Work independently to perform technical tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or engineering technology, preferred Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience in product design/development, with ideal design experience in mass-produced products; or master’s degree in engineering or engineering technology with at least 3 years of experience; or PhD in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
  • Experience in launching new products within a structured product development process.
  • Excellent communication skills, oral & written. (Internal and external)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with innovative technologies (Additive manufacturing, Electronics, etc.), preferred.
  • Experience in working with a widely distributed team on a global footprint is a plus.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented contributor with demonstrated ability to think creatively to achieve goals and deliver results efficiently.
  • Willing to travel to Hussmann and Customer locations to support developing new products and systems.
  • Developing and performing environmental and mechanical stress tests including shock, drop, and vibration.
  • Knowledge of industry test standards (ASHRAE, UL, ASTM, ISO, IEEE), a plus.
