About The Opportunity

Join our MQ-9 Requirements and System Architecture group as a System Engineering Supervisor, where you’ll lead a talented team at the critical intersection of systems engineering and software development. In this role, you’ll serve as the primary systems engineering liaison to the MQ-9B Software Integrated Product Team (IPT), driving requirements development and ensuring seamless integration of software solutions across our remotely piloted aircraft systems product line.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Lead and mentor a dynamic team of systems engineers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
  • Build and retain talent by providing career guidance, identifying staffing needs, and championing your team’s development.
  • Plan and orchestrate work assignments, project schedules, and deliverables to meet development needs.
Technical Leadership & Strategy
  • Act as the technical representative between Systems Engineering and the Software IPT, aligning team efforts in support of IPT activities.
  • Solve complex challenges by determining technical objectives for advanced engineering problems requiring creative, forward-thinking solutions.
  • Guide solution architecture from concept through deployment, including integration, testing, documentation, certification, and safety considerations.
Collaboration & Influence
  • Represent the organization as the primary technical contact for assigned programs, interfacing with senior stakeholders across multiple organizations.
  • Communicate strategically with engineering teams, end users, and leadership throughout the solution lifecycle.
  • Provide expert guidance to less experienced professionals, serving in both advisory and project leadership capacities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and direct the work of a team of System Engineers.
  • Plan and schedule work assignments for the team. Monitor project schedules, timelines and deliverables using standard project management tools and engineering systems.
  • Participate in staff level planning and evaluation.
  • Define individual accountability and milestones to meet project objectives.
  • Communicates performance expectations and aids in the resolution of problems encountered by the team.
  • Develops and champions Systems Engineering practices and processes within the organization, including but not limited to Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Determines technical objectives for solution(s) to advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Represents the organization as a prime technical contact within an engineering team for assigned project(s)/program(s).
  • May function in an advisory or leadership role for a project/program and provide direction and guidance to less experienced professional staff or team of professional staff.
  • Formulates plans and guides the development and implementation of engineering solution(s) including deployment, resource requirements, testing, documentation, integration, compliance, and safety.
  • Plans and coordinates engineering solutions including, documentation, reporting, publishing, and making technical and other presentations to ensure viability of the solution(s) in an evolving environment.
  • Plans for future applications of solutions based on new developments in engineering technology.
  • Ensure all work products meet General Atomics quality standards and company policies.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Uphold all applicable laws, regulations, and safety obligations.
  • Foster a culture of safe work practices in accordance with established procedures.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
  • Capability of representing the organization as a prime technical contact; and, the ability to provide leadership and guidance to less experienced professionals.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self- initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to an engineering symposium, and invited and/or participated on an engineering review panel are desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security clearance.
