NexGen Data Systems in Columbus, OH is seeking a Systems Engineer (Task 3) to provision, operate, install and maintain systems hardware, software and cloud infrastructure with a strong emphasis on cloud technologies.

You will provide hands-on delivery, technical guidance and participate in R&D to enable continuous innovation within the cloud environment, ensuring on‑premise and cloud systems meet regulatory and organizational requirements.

Qualifications

• Five years of overall professional experience in the engineering field.
• Three years managing hybrid storage infrastructure (Azure and/or AWS).
• Two years hands-on experience with enterprise SAN management and backup/restore.
• Experience with DoD IT systems is required.
• DoD security clearance and related certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Document specifications, project plans, configurations, test plans and results.
• Monitor data restore and disaster recovery capabilities for on‑prem and cloud.
• Coordinate DR failovers within DLA cloud environments.
• Ensure high availability and performance of critical enterprise apps in the cloud.

Description

NexGen Data Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer (Task 3). This position is responsible for effective provisioning, operation, installation/configuration, and maintenance of systems hardware/software/related infrastructure with an emphasis on cloud computing technologies. Provide technical support, guidance and hands-on delivery in the planning, implementation, and ongoing operations. The Systems Engineer shall participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the existing cloud infrastructure. Ensure that on-premise and cloud hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values and regulatory requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• The Systems Engineer shall document specifications, project plans, configurations, test plans and results. Depicts complex ideas, issues, and designs to varied audiences; communicates project objectives, scope and status to project teams. Typical Systems Engineer responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
• Monitor and report on existing data restore and disaster recovery capabilities for both on-premises and cloud environments. Provide recommendations on process improvement/efficiencies.
• Coordinate/perform/document Disaster Recovery (DR) failovers within DLA cloud environments.
• Ensure high availability and performance expectations of critical enterprise applications/systems operating within the cloud environment.
• Develop, integrate, and oversee storage arrays, fiber switches, and associated components.
• Maintain and oversee data backup solutions to ensure mission objective are met for both on-premises and cloud environments.
• Research, build, and implement file sharing technologies to meet customer requirements.
• Troubleshoot and advise on advanced storage issues/deficiencies in relation to both on-premises and cloud technologies.
• Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance.
• Perform storage analysis, capacity planning, and performance planning of storage components.
• Author/document policies and procedures to support the operational storage environment and participate in the design and ongoing refinement of procedures and policies.
• Prepare reports on storage administration best practices, new technologies, etc., and recommend enhancements and configuration changes to improve and optimize existing storage technologies.

• Five (5) years of overall professional experience in the engineering field. This includes evaluating, manufacturing, and integrating enterprise-level storage and backup software technologies.
• Three (3) years of hands‑on experience managing hybrid storage infrastructure (Azure cloud and/or Amazon Web Services).
• Two (2) years hands-on experience with enterprise SAN (Storage Area Network) management to include capabilities and technologies such as: Fiber Channel zoning, iSCSI, FCoE (Fiber Channel over Ethernet) unified fabric, HBA/CNA (Host Bus Adapter/Converged Network Adapter), storage controllers, and LUN (Logical Unit Number), RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks), and file sharing / NAS (Network Addressable Storage). Hands‑on experience with enterprise hierarchical storage system management; operation of enterprise backup/restore services, using products such as Cohesity NetBackup, Amazon Web Services (AWS) Backup, Microsoft Azure Recovery Services/Site Recovery, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Backup and Disaster Recovery.
• Two (2) years’ hands‑on experience working with Department of War (DoW) IT systems.
