Job description

Job Title: Staff Systems Engineer – System of Systems Integration & Product Owner

Location: Multiple Program Sites / Core Aerospace Facility

Position Type: Direct Hire / Full-Time

Position Overview

A premier aerospace and defense industry leader is seeking an experienced Staff Systems Engineer to serve as a Product Owner supporting large-scale System of Systems Integration for advanced Satellite Communications (SATCOM) flight and ground architectures.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between technical execution and program leadership—driving systems integration across the program lifecycle, defining technical product roadmaps, and collaborating closely with multi-disciplinary SEIT organizations to deliver high-reliability space solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Ownership & Backlog Management: Define and articulate a clear product vision aligned with overall mission milestones; write, refine, and prioritize technical user stories, acceptance criteria, and system tasks ready for sprint execution.
  • Systems Integration & Lifecycle Execution: Lead system-of-systems integration activities from early concept, architecture trade studies, and requirements allocation through to verification, validation, deployment, and operational maintenance.
  • SEIT Alignment: Partner closely with System Engineering, Integration, and Test (SEIT) teams, payload teams, and software engineers to design, build, and deliver seamless end-to-end communications solutions.
  • Technical Trade Studies & Risk Mitigation: Perform functional flow analyses, timeline analyses, interface definition studies, and supportability/effectiveness analyses to systematically convert customer operational requirements into robust hardware/software specifications.
  • Agile Engineering Leadership: Serve as a technical focal point in Agile rituals (sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, demos), working with engineering disciplines to remove technical blockers and mitigate interface risk

??????? Required Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, Systems), Computer Science, or related technical discipline (or equivalent direct professional experience).
  • Clearance: Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance with the verified ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret / SCI clearance.
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience operating as a Technical Lead, Scrum Product Owner, or Lead Systems Engineer on complex technical programs.
  • Systems Engineering Expertise: Deep practical knowledge of formal Systems Engineering & Integration processes, requirements traceability, and system verification/validation (V&V).
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Proven track record coordinating multidisciplinary engineering efforts across diverse hardware and software teams.
  • Methodologies: Solid grounding in Agile product management and delivery tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Full lifecycle systems integration and engineering experience within National Security Space, commercial satellite, or SATCOM programs.
  • Direct technical experience with RF/communications payloads, payload unit verification, terminal hardware interfaces, or ground station command and control (C2) systems.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and modeling tools (e.g., Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw).
  • Industry certification in Agile frameworks (e.g., Certified Scrum Product Owner - CSPO, SAFe POPM).
  • Working proficiency with enterprise tracking tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Rally.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with competitive company matching
  • Flexible work schedules (including 4x10 and 9/80 schedules, program permitting)
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO), standard paid holidays, and paid parental leave
  • Tuition assistance and professional development programs
  • Company-paid short-term/long-term disability and basic life insurance .
