The Systems Engineer, Senior serves as a technical project leader and subject matter expert, responsible for driving complex IT initiatives that enhance the Keck Medicine of USC's multi-platform system environment. This role oversees the planning, design, and execution of solutions that address critical business and technology challenges. Working across IT disciplines and with business stakeholders, the Systems Engineer, Senior ensures that systems are architected, implemented, and maintained to deliver reliable, secure, and high-performing services.

Essential Duties
  • Provides architectural recommendations and implements strategic solutions to resolve IT system challenges stemming from database, infrastructure, or distributed system constraints.
  • Monitors emerging technologies and industry developments, assessing applicability and making recommendations for adoption to strengthen future system architecture and project outcomes.
  • Leads system capacity and performance analysis for both batch and online environments; develops and maintains data and process models to inform architectural planning and system optimization. Conducts capacity planning and performance analysis to guide system optimization and propose architecture improvements.
  • Analyzes, develops, and proposes solution designs for complex service requests, incident reports, and system issues, ensuring timely resolution within project and organizational objectives. Leads analysis and solution design for major service requests, incident resolutions, and system enhancement projects.
  • Oversees the implementation of solutions, ensuring technical accuracy, adherence to timelines, and successful project outcomes. Implements and/or supervises the implementation of solutions, ensuring project deliverables are met and that system, database, or performance issues are effectively addressed.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational security directives by integrating security requirements into project planning and execution. Integrates software security directives from HIT Information Security departments into project plans and system implementations to ensure compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Provides oversight and strategic recommendations for the technical security of desktops and servers, coordinating with HIT Security and ITS IT Security to align with enterprise initiatives. Oversees the maintenance and update of departmental firewalls in alignment with ITS IT Security initiatives, ensuring secure system configurations.
  • Coordinates with IT staff across functions and partners with cross-functional IT teams to manage dependencies, resolve technical challenges and issues, and ensure effective communication and alignment on project deliverables throughout project lifecycles.
  • Partners with clients and vendors to foster strong working relationships, proactively identifying risks or issues that could impact business operations; develops and presents solution options, manages expectations, assesses risks, and proposes strategic solutions that support business operations.
  • Prepares, produces, and maintains comprehensive technical documentation, including system designs, technical specifications, project deliverables, and related documentation to support ongoing project work and knowledge transfer.
  • Mentors, trains, and develops new team members, fostering technical growth, building project readiness, and ensuring effective use of tools and support software within the environment.
  • Coordinates system patching and vulnerability remediation as part of broader infrastructure improvement initiatives and applies patches and remediates vulnerabilities on assigned systems.
  • Oversees administration of user accounts and access management on assigned systems, ensuring security policies are upheld and access issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Req Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • OR the equivalent combination of experience and education that would demonstrate the capability to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

The annual base salary range for this position is $99,507.00 - $164,559.00.
