Job summary

Chalk is hiring software engineers for an in-person early-employee role in San Francisco. You will tackle challenging engineering problems with a high degree of autonomy and ownership, focusing on systems that power our DBMS query planning, optimization, and distributed data processing.

You will work on Python, C++, and Rust, designing and shipping major components of our execution engine while iterating rapidly to meet customer needs.

Qualifications

• Strong CS fundamentals and ability to build and maintain real systems.
• Demonstrated ability to own components and take initiative.
• Excellent communication and quick learning are required.
• Graduation date Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 in CS/EECS.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with Chalk's co-founders.
• Write C++, Python and Rust for core systems.
• Design, implement, ship, and maintain components of the query planning/execution engine.
• Iterate quickly to respond to customer needs.
