Job description

Overview

APS is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the development of advanced U.S. Navy undersea systems from concept through production and qualification. The successful candidate will lead systems engineering efforts for clean-sheet hardware developments, translating customer and engineering requirements into well-defined subsystem and component requirements while supporting verification, validation, integration, and Navy qualification activities.

The ideal candidate brings a strong technical foundation, enjoys working across multidisciplinary teams to develop complex mechanical, electrical, and software-based systems for maritime applications, and proven ability to support schedule and coordinate resources to meet system definition and test milestones while providing engineering rigor to deconflict subsystem interactions during rapid development, test, and production cycles. APS works on exciting, technically challenging, research & development programs where multidisciplinary teams work closely to address difficult national security needs. This role offers the opportunity to shape next-generation undersea capabilities by leading systems engineering activities from initial customer requirements through successful Navy qualification and deployment. At APS you will work in a small company environment where technical and administrative excellence are rewarded, and an entrepreneurial spirit is encouraged. This position will allow applicants to make meaningful contributions to the APS mission.

Job Functions And Responsibilities
  • Analyze and interpret U.S. Navy requirements, specifications, and interface documents.
  • Able to coordinate multiple stakeholders and engineering disciplines.

  • Create and maintain requirements traceability from customer requirements through verification and validation.
  • Lead requirements decomposition and allocation across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Support system architecture development and trade studies during early design phases.
  • Develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system specifications, verification plans, and technical data packages.
  • Coordinate system integration activities between mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and test engineering teams.
  • Develop qualification and verification strategies consistent with Navy acquisition programs.
  • Track system maturity through design reviews including SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and qualification testing.
  • Support hardware integration, laboratory testing, environmental testing, and qualification efforts.
  • Participate in customer technical interchange meetings and design reviews.
  • Assist with technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and issue resolution throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Willing to travel occasionally in support of customer meetings, integration events, and qualification testing.
  • Support transition from development into production.
  • Outline and track metrics for design margin versus system maturity status to manage program risks
Required Skills And Attributes
