Our team is building ultra-widefield Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscopy (SLO) systems that provide detailed insights into retinal structures, enabling precise assessments of retinal health and early detection of diseases.

Position Overview

We are looking for a hands-on Systems Engineer with strong skills in mechanical and electrical design to support the development of our next-generation handheld ophthalmic imaging systems. You will play a key role in system-level architecture, hardware integration, and iterative prototyping of compact, high-performance devices.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and prototype mechanical enclosures and opto-mechanical assemblies for handheld imaging systems
  • Develop PCB layouts and electrical subsystems including power, motor/galvo control, and data acquisition interfaces
  • Integrate components (optics, sensors, electronics, mechanical parts) into working systems
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and refinement of early prototypes
  • Collaborate with optical, software, and clinical teams to ensure seamless system function and usability
  • Maintain documentation for design iterations and support transition to manufacturable prototypes
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in system integration and prototyping (industry or academic lab)
  • Proficient in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks) and PCB design (e.g., Altium, KiCad)
  • Comfortable with benchtop tools, soldering, and rapid prototyping techniques
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with optical imaging systems (OCT, SLO, microscopy)
  • Experience with handheld or wearable devices; medical device development

  • Job Title: Systems Engineer
  • Work Environment: Lab and office setting. Some travel may be required for team meetings, vendor interactions or customer discussions. Flexible work hours with a strong culture of mentorship and growth are provided.
  • Reporting Structure: Reports to Chief Technology Officer
  • Salary: Salary is based upon candidate’s experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The Salary range is $70,000 to $95,000 USD per year.
