Systems Engineer Level 3

Location: Annapolis Junction, MD. Job Type: Full Time. Shift: Day. Telework: None. Salary Range: $150,000 to $200,000 per year. This position is a short-term contract of 2-6 months with potential transition to another WOOD Federal Solutions contract.

Overview

Join a mission-driven team where your systems engineering expertise directly shapes secure, cross‑domain capabilities. In this role, you will translate user needs and high‑level concepts into clear, actionable system requirements, drive system architecture development, guide design and integration efforts, and ensure technical integrity across the engineering lifecycle.

You will collaborate closely with government stakeholders and senior program leaders, evaluating alternative approaches, steering feasibility studies, and producing high‑quality technical documentation such as architecture artifacts and engineering and test plans. Candidates with Cross Domain Solutions experience and skill in drafting or editing a Data Owner's Guide (DOG) will find this role impactful. The role requires strong technical leadership, clear communication, and delivering engineering excellence that makes a measurable difference in mission execution.

Security Clearance Requirements

This position requires all candidates to be U.S. Citizens and possess an active TS/SCI Security Clearance with a Polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Translate user needs, CONOPS, and high‑level architectures into clear, testable system requirements.
• Lead design and development activities; provide technical leadership across integration of requirements, design, and technology.
• Advise users on alternative approaches; conduct feasibility studies to derisk decisions early.
• Incorporate new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations with minimal disruption.
• Produce crisp technical documentation, including system architecture and system design artifacts.
• Guide implementation planning through System Engineering Management Plans (SEMP) and integration & test plans.
• Engage directly with government counterparts to resolve technical issues and ensure mission alignment.
• Uphold the technical integrity of deliverables and communicate effectively with program staff and senior executives.

Qualifications

• Twenty (20) years experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity; demonstrated experience in planning and leading Systems Engineering efforts is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
• Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
