About The Role
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) seeks a Systems Engineer to be based out of IDT offices. The engineer will work with a fast‑paced mission‑focused team to develop cutting‑edge technology solving customer problems. Initiative, creativity, reliability, and teamwork will be required to deliver innovative solutions.
The Systems Engineer will translate customer goals and needs into solutions, communicate with customers and designers, lead and collaborate with development and deployment teams, and define product features to apply automated testing and analysis technologies for rapid assessment and deployment.
The ideal candidate will have skills in instrumentation and data recording, data analysis, behavior assessment against requirements, understanding of combat systems, kill chains and/or effects chains, and presentation/visualization methods to help stakeholders understand results and take corrective actions.
Clearance & Location Requirements
- All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
- This is an on‑site position requiring at least 4 days in the office, based in Arlington, VA, Mount Laurel, NJ, or San Diego, CA.
What You Will Do
- Develop test/data algorithms to quantify system actions, behaviors, and outcomes.
- Evaluate customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements and ensure compatibility of interfaces.
- Apply advanced systems/software technologies to develop innovative solutions for in‑service and next‑generation software systems.
- Plan, design, develop and verify life‑cycle balanced system of systems and solutions.
- Analyze and decompose requirements, review designs, generate test cases, procedures, and plans, and troubleshoot discrepancies.
- Perform analyses to optimize total system architecture.
- Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
- Determine SysML model implementation of systems engineering designs.
- Communicate directly with customers and users to understand needs and drive cross‑functional technical issues to closure.
Mandatory Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, other STEM field, or equivalent full‑time professional experience.
- 3–5+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to convert program requirements into viable technical solutions.
- Strong mathematical and communication skills to support rapid decision making.
- Understanding of systems engineering and software engineering best practices; ability to communicate with customer subject matter experts.
- Experience with testing and integration, applying best engineering practices, and developing test methodologies.
- Analytical skills to evaluate system behavior against specifications.
- Knowledge of the systems engineering V‑Model.
- Ability to work on‑site with potential hybrid flexibility.
- Travel up to 10%.
Desirable Qualifications (What Makes You Stand Out)
- Experience with AESA or DBF radar designs, distributed kill chains and combat systems.
- Knowledge of AI workflows to accelerate data‑to‑decision processes.
- Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering or Model‑Based Software Development using SysML or UML.
- Agile development experience.
- Experience with large complex systems.
- Programming in C++, Python, MATLAB or other languages.
- Systems engineering experience with integration, verification, and validation testing.
- Experience designing and testing complex software systems in DoD or large distributed contexts.
- Experience with data visualization and presentation.
- Proficiency with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
- Capability to identify and describe software interfaces.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Team‑centric execution and coordination skills.
Compensation
Pay range: $90,000 - $184,000 per year. Multiple ranges provided to reflect experience levels.
