Job summary

Inogen is seeking a Systems Engineer to drive product development and technology assessment across multiple disciplines. You will evaluate concepts, prototype solutions, and support manufacturing with a focus on reliability, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.

The role involves maintaining the R&D lab, coordinating with partners, and contributing to the IP portfolio while delivering regular project updates and technical demonstrations.

Qualifications

Job description

The primary responsibility of the Systems Engineer to develop and support the technology and product development efforts of Inogen. The Systems Engineer will evaluate the feasibility and opportunity of new products or improvements in quality, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and testing to existing product lines via development, implementation, integration and testing of subcomponents and algorithms as well as integrated hardware and software systems, including analyzing and resolving production line and field issues. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for developing, operating, and maintaining Inogen's R&D laboratory space, including operating laboratory equipment and researching, procuring, and deploying equipment as needed. The Systems Engineer is also responsible for evaluating new technologies and working with development partners to integrate new technologies into Inogen Products or assisting partners to integrate Inogen's technologies into their products. The Systems Engineer should additionally contribute to Inogen's Intellectual Property Portfolio.

Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)

• Analytically design and evaluate new product concepts and technology proof of concepts
• Research and maintain an understanding of current technology trends as they may apply to Inogen product opportunities
• Support the design and manufacture of Inogen products
• Work with component suppliers, other members of the R&D team, and other groups within the organization to create highly reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products.
• Actively pursue the generation and protection of intellectual property to achieve Inogen's corporate goals.
• Develop and refine Inogen's R&D capabilities to include enable rapid and efficient development, evaluation, and test of concepts and product opportunities.
• The Systems Engineer will keep detailed records of test set-ups and test records for the design history files and projects for reference by other engineers for equipment usage.
• Prepare and present reports and demonstrations of project work
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Comply with all company policies and procedures.
• Assist with any other duties as assigned.

In addition to items listed for Systems Engineer I a Systems Engineer II may also be responsible for the following.

• Directed design of components and fixtures, with a single focused area of responsibility. Ability to plan, execute, and document system level testing of designed components and fixtures independently.

In addition to items listed for Systems Engineer II a Systems Engineer III may also be responsible for the following.

• Ability to create and run analytical simulations and models of complex processes and systems.
• Autonomous design of components and fixtures from concept through implementation. Works cross-functionally across organization to drive projects to completion. Plans, executes, and documents system level testing of designed components and fixtures independently.

Qualifications (Experience and Education)

Level I

• Bachelors' in Engineering or related field of study, required.
• 1-3 year of research laboratory environment experience, required.
• Medical manufacturing experience, preferred.
• A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Level II

• Bachelors' in Engineering or related field of study, required.
• 3-5 years of research laboratory environment experience, required.
• 2+ years of medical device manufacturing experience, preferred.
• A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Level III

• Bachelors' in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering or Scientific field, required.
• Masters' in Engineering or related field of study, preferred.
• 5-7 years of research laboratory environment experience, required.
• 3+ years of medical device manufacturing experience, required.
• A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Level IV

• Bachelors' in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering or Scientific field, required.
• Doctorate in Engineering or related field of study, preferred.
• 7+ years of research laboratory environment experience, required.
• 3+ years of medical device manufacturing experience, required.
• A combination of training, education and experience that is equivalent to the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Inogen assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $126,000.00 and $157,000.00 annually. However, actual base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and will be based on non-discriminatory factors, including as to individual skills, education, experience and market location.
