Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a systems engineering professional to develop and execute RF hardware processes for spaceflight hardware, including software-defined radios, antennas, and RF amplifiers. You will ensure end-to-end safety and performance compliance for RF systems across development cycles.

Responsibilities include managing requirements, V&V planning, ICDs, and gated review artifacts, with emphasis on safety analyses and cross-team coordination to enable reliable, mission-ready hardware.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree or higher in an applicable field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, etc.).
• Experience working with RF hardware, particularly software-defined radios, antennas, and RF amplifiers.
• Experience working on RF communications systems or RADAR systems.

• Ability to interpret high-level system requirements to practical designs.
• Knowledge of systems engineering practices (requirements development; verification; risk management).
• Experience with requirements management software (JAMA preferred).

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team, you will work on the development and execution of systems engineering processes and artifacts needed for the development of software-defined radios, RF amplifiers, RADAR systems, GPS/GNSS and antennas in future space vehicles. You will be responsible for ensuring the end-to-end compliance against safety and performance for all the RF hardware.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

• Support development and maintenance of system and lower-level requirements for all RF hardware, including change control, audits, and cross-team coordination
• Support development of the verification and validation (V&V) plan for all RF hardware and support V&V activities, including tracking V&V activities to completion, reviewing subsystem test plans, and possible travel to test facilities as needed
• Support development and maintenance of interface control documents (ICDs) for all RF hardware
• Coordinate the development lifecycle artifacts required for gated reviews such as PDR and CDR
• Support and establish processes for the development of system safety artifacts such as FHAs, FTAs, FMECAs
• Coordinate the execution of reliability analysis for all RF hardware
• Coordinate with Integration & Test teams to ensure test facilities (including integration labs) have the required capabilities per requirements definition

Minimum Qualifications

• Passion for getting people into space and back again safely
• B.S. degree or higher in an applicable field (electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, etc.)
• Experience working with RF hardware, particularly software-defined radios, antennas, and RF Amplifiers
• Experience working on RF communications systems or RADAR systems
• Successful candidates in this role typically have 5+ years of related experience.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions
• In depth knowledge of systems engineering practices (e.g., requirements development; standard verification methods; functional decomposition; standard diagramming techniques; risk and opportunity management)
• Experience with requirements management software (JAMA preferred)
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines
• 5+ years industry experience on large engineering systems
• Experience designing and developing flight proven spacecraft hardware
• Hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting various RF hardware and RF systems.
• Knowledge of and experience in analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, microcontrollers and FPGA interfaces, design of RF systems, serial communication, and/or telemetry systems.
• Proficiently using software tools such as Matlab or Python
• Familiar with AI tools and agents to automate recurring tasks and speed up processes
• Experience with harnessing and component packaging
• Experience developing products at any stage from early trade studies through final design, manufacturing, and test

Base Pay Range For

VA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70 WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70
