Job summary

Astrion is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in San Antonio, TX (JBSA Area) to support DoD/Space programs with advanced systems engineering and cybersecurity responsibilities.

The role requires an Active Secret Clearance and deep expertise in IT, systems engineering, and acquisition processes, with opportunities to influence program direction and ensure mission success.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree with 10 years of experience (5 in DoD)
• BA/BS with 12 years experience in CS/IT or engineering, 5 in DoD
• 15 years related DoD experience with proper certifications

Responsibilities

• Identify, describe, and apply IT acquisition strategies and best practices for acquisition planning and cybersecurity.
• Conduct program portfolio reviews and design system-level tests to ensure performance per specs.
• Prepare technical documentation and management reports for planning and corrective actions.
• Provide Agile and Digital system/program engineering support and training for programs.

Required Qualifications / Skills

• Possesses the advanced knowledge, experience and recognized ability to be considered an expert in their technical/professional field, possess the ability to perform tasks and oversee the efforts of junior and mid-level personnel within the technical/professional discipline. Will demonstrate advanced knowledge of their technical/professional discipline as well as possess a comprehensive understanding and ability to apply associated standards, procedures and practices in their area of expertise. (Program Office, Enterprise and Staff Level Support interface)
• Advanced Degree (MA/MS) or Doctorate from an ABET accredited program in Computer Science, Information Technology or other Engineering Discipline and 10 years of experience, 5 of which must be in the DoD, or
• BA/BS Degree from an ABET accredited program in Computer Science, Information Technology or other Engineering Discipline and 12 years of experience in the respective technical/professional discipline being performed, 5 of which must be in the DoD, or,
• 15 years of directly related experience with proper certifications, 8 of which must be in the DoD.
• Active Secret Clearance. Current U.S. Citizenship Required
• Certifications:
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect, (or associate)
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Microsoft Axure equivalent
  • Current certification in Oracle/OCI products and/or databases
  • CompTIA Security+ CE - Required

Responsibilities

• Identify, describe, and apply emerging IT acquisition strategies, best practices, IT-related performance measures and quality management in support of acquisition planning, information assurance/cybersecurity, test and evaluation processes, verification and validation processes, and/or, fielding and sustaining of IT/software systems;
• Conduct reviews on program portfolio to evaluate and/or recommend alternative plans, improve systems engineering programs/processes, manage/sustain program technical baseline, and design/perform system level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications;
• Perform program reviews to evaluate alternative proposed plans, systems engineering programs, design and test results to assure that subsystem and system performance is achieved in accordance with program specifications;
• Prepare technical documentation which defines, specifies, and recommends system/subsystem characteristics;
• Prepare management reports and conducts technical presentations for planning, implementation and corrective action using application of engineering principles;
• Perform validation of software systems including development of analyses/evaluation criteria and procedures, analyses/evaluation of results, and related recommendations;
• Provide Agile and Digital system/program engineering, technical support and technical training to support programs/initiatives including, but not limited to, acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight;
• Provide engineering support services and inputs to program and project risk management activities in compliance with AF Systems Engineering Assessment Model (SEAM) processes; and,
• Perform all (system) engineering according to applicable DOD, AF, AFMC directives, instructions, and manuals, to include, but not be limited to, AFI 63-101, AFMAN 63-144, AFMCI 63-1202, AFMAN 63-128, AF/ 99-103 - and their updates, successors (as happens over time).
