Job summary

Our client, a worldleader in biotechnology and gene therapy, is seeking a hands-on Systems Engineer II in Santa Clara, CA to support development and integration of next-generation sequencing solutions. The role involves wet-lab experiments, workflow optimization, and cross-team collaboration.

The candidate should have 5+ years with a Bachelor's (or 1–3+ years with a Master's) in a relevant field; proficient in Python, MATLAB, and Git, with DoE and statistical skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s with 1–3+ years of relevant experience in science, engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with PCR, nucleic acid extraction, DNA sequencing, sample preparation, library preparation, and/or NGS.
• Experience using Python, MATLAB, Git, or similar tools for data analysis or automation.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis, including JMP, regression, and ANOVA.
• Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) and statistical process control.
• Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, data analysis, and technical documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, analyze, and document experiments supporting NGS feasibility, development, integration, verification, and validation.
• Perform nucleic acid extraction, sample preparation, library preparation, and sequencing experiments.
• Optimize sequencing workflows and operating protocols.
• Troubleshoot instrument, assay, and workflow failures using root cause analysis.
• Develop and execute test cases based on product requirements.
• Apply statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DoE) methods to interpret data and improve sequencing performance.
• Collaborate with assay, instrumentation, software, bioinformatics, and systems engineering teams.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and support continuous improvement of sequencing performance, reliability, throughput, and reproducibility.
