Join the HJF Team!

HJF is seeking a Systems Engineer II, under the direction of the Sr. Manager, IT Systems Engineering, designs, implements, secures, and maintains Linux systems across on-premises and cloud environments in support of research and administrative operations. The role serves as a technical resource for hybrid-cloud infrastructure, Microsoft Azure, regulated computing environments, and IT service management practices, including systems that may support NIST 800-171-aligned security requirements. The Systems Engineer II works independently while collaborating effectively with technical teams, subject matter experts, business partners, and customers to deliver reliable, supportable, and compliant technology solutions.

This position will be in support of the Office of the Chief Information Officer.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

  • Design, implement, maintain, and secure Linux server environments supporting research, administrative, and regulated workloads across on-premises and cloud platforms. Apply secure engineering practices to support the CMMC enclave and related compliance expectations, including hardened configurations, access controls, monitoring, and documentation.
  • Operate systems in a highly regulated environment using security, configuration, change, incident, and problem management practices aligned with organizational standards. Support operational separation between enterprise systems and the CMMC enclave by following approved workflows for access, change control, patching, vulnerability remediation, and evidence collection. Maintain accurate technical documentation and audit-ready records that demonstrate compliance with HJF security and service management requirements.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud architecture, including implementation, configuration, governance, and operational support. Engineer cloud and hybrid solutions with appropriate data boundary controls, and secure connectivity patterns.
  • Perform configuration and administration of authentication and identity technologies that integrate Microsoft Active Directory with Linux systems. Collaborate with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to ensure authentication services align with CMMC enclave boundaries, logging requirements, and secure operational practices.
  • Support physical infrastructure, host systems, virtualization platforms, and related on-premises technologies needed to sustain enterprise environments. Assist with infrastructure supporting operations, including hosts, storage, backup, monitoring, and network-adjacent dependencies that must remain reliable and appropriately separated. Troubleshoot complex issues across environment while coordinating with cross-functional teams to maintain availability, security, and compliance.
