Job summary

S3I Engineering, LLC is seeking entry- and mid-level Systems Engineers to test and integrate DoD mission systems and sensors. You will work on development, integration, testing, and analysis of complex systems in lab and field environments, collaborating with government personnel to ensure mission success.

The role requires a BS in Engineering or related field, DoD Secret clearance eligibility, and strong Linux troubleshooting.

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with Linux-based troubleshooting and complex system configuration.
  • Reverse engineering system behavior for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Must be able to obtain DoD 8570/8140 compliance within 6 months of starting.
  • Experience with DoD sensor systems and mission systems on DoD platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute installation, configuration, and testing on aircraft and in government labs to identify issues and provide actionable fixes.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of field-reported issues and validate fixes.
  • Contribute to design reviews and requirements traceability.
  • Collaborate with government personnel and partners to deliver reliable solutions.
  • Troubleshoot multi-system problems involving sensors, networks, mission software, and hardware.

Position Description

Systems Engineer II

Position Summary

The Systems Engineer II provides experienced engineering expertise supporting the development, integration, testing, and analysis of complex DoD mission systems, advanced sensors, and integrated software architectures. This role requires independent investigation, advanced troubleshooting, leadership in test events, and collaborative engagement with government personnel. This work requires deeper technical knowledge to support a small team during laboratory and field test activities in government labs and aircraft environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute the installation, configuration, and testing on aircraft and in government laboratories to identify technical deficiencies and provide actionable recommendations to development teams.
  • Perform independent reproduction and detailed analysis of field‑reported system issues, including root cause validation.
  • Provide expert input during design reviews and support requirements derivation and traceability activities.
  • Collaborate directly with government personnel and partners to deliver reliable, technically sound solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate multi-system problems involving sensors, networks, mission software, and hardware.
  • Evaluate, refine, and validate test methodologies to address gaps and ensure consistent system performance.
  • Configure complex test bench systems for advanced requirements testing.
  • Lead software test events, train junior staff, and guide peer engineers in technical practices.
  • Prepare detailed field test reports and consolidate findings for leadership and government stakeholders.
  • Support tasking outside of normal business hours (<10% annually)
  • Travel to support tasking approximately 12-18 weeks annually
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Hardware, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field; or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with Linux-based troubleshooting, system diagnostics, and complex system configuration across separate interdependent projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in reverse engineering system behavior to support troubleshooting, testing, and diagnostic workflows.
  • Ability to obtain DoD 8570/8140 compliance by certification or education within 6 months of starting.
  • Experience with DoD sensor systems (EO/IR, Radar, SIGINT, etc.) and mission systems deployed on one or more DoD platforms.
  • Highly articulate communication skills for conveying complex technical behaviors and system interactions.
  • US Citizenship and eligibility for TS/SCI clearance.
  • Ability to access government facilities and travel between office and government sites as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong software troubleshooting experience and familiarity with software development in Linux environments.
  • Proficiency with Git or other software configuration management tools.
  • Prior Minotaur system experience is strongly desired.
  • Ability to assess and troubleshoot complex, interconnected system issues.
  • Experience working within DoD cloud environments such as IL5 or higher.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift and carry approximately 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to maneuver in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to access government locations, facilities, and vessels.
