Job summary

The Allen Institute is seeking a Systems Engineer II, Enterprise Systems to join the Enterprise IT Infrastructure Team. You will design, deploy, and support Windows-based enterprise services that power our research and operations.

You will manage 40+ servers for 925 staff, enable single sign-on with MFA, and deepen Google Workspace/GCP expertise while maintaining knowledge of Microsoft 365/Azure. A bachelor’s degree and 3+ years in Windows administration are required, with strong collaboration

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of degree and experience.
  • At least three years of professional Windows system administration experience.
  • Hands-on experience administering enterprise collaboration and cloud platforms such as Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Practical experience managing production cloud services, with strength in Google Workspace and GCP and familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure.
  • Familiarity with system management frameworks such as MDT, WSUS, SCCM, and Intune.

Systems Engineer II, Enterprise Systems

The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. Using an open science, multi-scale, team-oriented approach, the Allen Institute focuses on accelerating foundational research, developing standards and models, and cultivating new ideas to make a broad, transformational impact on science.

The mission of the Allen Institute administration team is to provide support and structure to the scientific divisions. Coinciding with the team science approach, administration helps facilitate team learning and the overall mission of the institute.

As a key member of the Enterprise IT Infrastructure Team, you are an experienced systems engineer who is an effective problem solver and builds secure, scalable services using a combination of creativity and technical rigor. This role will be involved with cloud-based integrations, identity and access management, endpoint administration, cybersecurity operations, and deploying and upgrading IT infrastructure. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while maintaining working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Azure, and Mac administration.

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of degree and experience required
  • At least three years of professional Windows system administration experience
  • Hands‑on experience administering enterprise collaboration and cloud platforms such as Google Workspace and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Practical experience managing production cloud services, with strength in Google Workspace and GCP and familiarity with Microsoft 365 and Azure
  • Familiarity with system management frameworks such as MDT, WSUS, SCCM, and Intune
Preferred Education and Experience
  • Five or more years of professional system administration experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of Mac administration, including tools such as Jamf Pro, preferred
  • One or more years of experience with centralized storage systems such as NetApp
  • Knowledge of enterprise backup systems such as Veeam
  • Operational automation skills using PowerShell
  • Customer-focused mindset

Annualized Salary Range

$112,950 - $139,750 *

* Final salary depends on the required education for the role, experience, level of skills relevant to the role, and work location, where applicable.
