Job summary

Ocean Optics seeks a Systems Engineer II in Rochester, NY to join a cross-disciplinary team delivering imaging, spectroscopy, and color measurement solutions. You will develop prototypes, integrate hardware and software, and contribute to design and testing across engineering domains.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of hands-on hardware/software experience, plus skills in MATLAB, SolidWorks, and Altium, with strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical, Optical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or similar field.
• 2+ years of experience delivering technical hardware/software solutions.

Responsibilities

• Develop prototypes of new opportunities aligned with customer needs.
• Design, build and test hardware and software to meet specs for imaging, spectroscopy, and color measurement.
• Produce mechanical/electrical designs and optomechanical components; troubleshoot systems.

Drawing from disciplines including systems, optics, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering we’re assembling the capacity to provide even deeper customer collaboration on highly precise challenges across industries.As a Systems Engineer II, the successful candidate will help drive the development of multiple technology-based solutions to engineering and commercial problems.Utilize multidisciplinary engineering experience and expertise to design, build, and test new solutions to meet customer requirements and specifications for imaging, spectral sensing, and color measurement applications.Work with commercial and applications teams to develop prototypes of new opportunities that align customer needs to the strengths and benefits of the business.Produce mechanical and electrical design of instruments and fixtures, optomechanical design of devices, basic software or firmware development, and troubleshooting of systems with the mix of these tasks determined by the applicant’s skillset.Develop hands-on expertise in hardware, spectroscopy, imaging, software, and/or electrical engineering.Other duties as assigned.ABOUT THE CANDIDATEOur ideal candidate should possess:EducationB.S. (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar engineering degree.Experience2+ years of experience developing technical solutions in complex hardware and software development; more experienced candidates welcome to apply.Desired SkillsHands-on experience developing integrated hardware/software systems from concept to production.Ability to analyze data in an efficient manner and derive actionable development direction from results.
