Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or related discipline from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of control systems, IoT, smart building solutions, BAS, DDC/PLC systems.
  • Familiar with open-source protocols and building automation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute engineering documents under supervision.
  • Prepare drawings and visual aids with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Review drawings details, schedules, sequences of operations, and content.
  • Assist with selecting DDC controllers and field devices.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, product data, and O&M manuals.
  • Support pre-construction activities with data collection and reports.
  • Support construction activities, RFIs, punch lists, and closeout docs.
  • Assist project reporting and stakeholder communications.
  • Manage personal hours using company tools.

Job Summary

The Systems Engineer I – Intern will gain hands‑on experience and support the design, implementation, and operation of Building Automation Systems across Healthcare, Industrial, Commercial, and Mission‑Critical sectors.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with Development and Execution of Engineering Documents (60%)
    • Perform basic engineering work and design tasks under a senior engineer’s supervision
    • Utilize AutoCAD and Revit to prepare drawings and visual aids
    • Assist in reviewing and creating drawings details, schedules, sequence of operations, and drawing content
    • Assist with selection and sourcing of DDC programmable controllers and field devices
    • Review shop drawings, submittals, product data, and O&M manuals as directed
  • Assist with Pre‑Construction Activities (15%)
    • Survey existing building conditions and prepare technical reports
    • Collect data for construction documents
    • Prepare project design and construction documents
    • Basic review and editing of project specifications
  • Assist with Construction Activities (15%)
    • Review shop drawings and submittals
    • Respond to RFIs
    • Assist with punch lists and project closeout documents
  • Reporting (10%)
    • Assist with project communication and reporting
    • Assist with progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
    • Manage personal hours using company tools
  • Complete assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget
Requirements
  • Knowledge of control system principles, IoT, smart building solutions, BAS, DDC/PLC systems
  • Knowledge of open‑source protocols (BACnet, Modbus, SNMP)
  • Skilled in MS Office Suite and excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to complete assignments accurately
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows
  • Effective communication and self‑motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness in a remote setting
  • Ability to follow safety requirements and analyze documents
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Teamwork capabilities and moderate supervision
  • Work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction, or related discipline from an ABET accredited institution; knowledge of engineering fundamentals.

Physical Demands
  • Frequently manipulating, moving or grasping small parts, devices or tools
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position
  • Frequently moving through office, critical facility and other environments (low and high temperatures, outdoor elements)
  • Frequently descending/ascending stairs and ladders
  • Occasionally position self under or over equipment
  • Occasionally move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Travel Requirements

Up to 25% travel across the US; travel includes client sites, meetings, conferences, etc. Valid REAL ID or acceptable alternative required.
