Job summary

Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington is seeking a Systems Engineer I to own day-to-day systems operations and provide escalated technical support across our environment in Seattle. You will ensure production systems are healthy, resolve helpdesk escalations, and contribute to infrastructure modernization alongside senior engineers.

The role requires 1–3 years in systems administration with solid Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualization experience.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in systems administration, IT operations, or a senior helpdesk/desktop role with server responsibilities
• Windows Server and Active Directory including DNS and DHCP experience
• Hands-on with at least one hypervisor (VMware ESXi, Proxmox, or Hyper-V)
• Solid networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPN, and multi-site connectivity troubleshooting
• Scripting ability for automating routine tasks; PowerShell preferred; Bash or Python welcome
• Clear written communication and good documentation habit
• Good judgment on issue ownership and escalation when needed

• Administer Windows Server and virtualized workloads across datacenter and store environments
• Manage identity and directory tasks — provisioning, deprovisioning, groups, MFA
• Provide remote systems support to 24 retail locations and coordinate on-site work as needed
• Build and maintain runbooks and documentation; support infrastructure projects
• Participate in maintenance windows and on-call rotation

Position Summary

We are hiring a Systems Engineer I to own day-to-day systems operations and escalated technical support across our environment. You will keep production systems healthy and reliable, resolve issues that come to you from the helpdesk, and support our infrastructure modernization work as it rolls out. This is a strong fit for someone who has outgrown a helpdesk or desktop support role and is ready for server-side ownership, with senior engineers close by to learn from.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Take ownership of technical issues escalated beyond the helpdesk, drive them to resolution, and document root cause and fixes
• Perform day-to-day systems operations: patching, backup and restore verification, monitoring and alert response, and server and endpoint health checks
• Administer Windows Server and virtualized workloads across the datacenter and store environments
• Handle identity and directory work — user provisioning and deprovisioning, group and permission management, MFA and access hygiene
• Provide remote systems support to 24 retail locations, including site infrastructure and connectivity issues, and coordinate on-site work when needed
• Build and maintain operational documentation and runbooks Support infrastructure projects, including virtualization platform migration and identity rollout work
• Participate in scheduled maintenance windows and an on-call rotation

Job-Specific Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in systems administration, IT operations, or a senio helpdesk/desktop support role with server responsibilities
• Working knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory, including users, groups, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
• Hands-on experience with at least one hypervisor (VMware ESXi, Proxmox, o Hyper-V
• Solid networking fundamentals: VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPN, and multi-site connectivity troubleshooting
• Scripting ability for automating routine tasks PowerShell preferred; Bash o Python also welcome
• Clear written communication and a habit of documenting your work
• Good judgment about what you can resolve on your own and what needs to be escape

Other / Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting multi-site or retail environments
• Exposure to Proxmox VE, KVM, Linux administration, or ZFS/Ceph storage
• Experience with Microsoft 365 / Entra ID, SSO, conditional access, or MFA tooling
• Backup and disaster recovery tooling experience (Veeam, Proxmox Backu Server, or similar)
• Familiarity with ticketing and monitoring platforms
• Relevant certifications (CompTIA Network+ or Server+, Microsoft, Linu Foundation) or equivalent practical experience

Minimum Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience. Demonstrated work carries more weight than credentials.
