Role Summary
Senior System Engineer – Mary Esther, Florida
Lead systems engineering for the Worldwide Warfighter Network (WWN) services, including design, development, integration, testing and fielding of hybrid service architectures. Work with RHEL, Windows, cloud and virtual platforms supporting critical defense enterprise services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead systems engineering activities for WWN.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify user requirements, decompose them into system requirements, technical performance parameters, and develop specifications.
- Present technical approaches and lead development of solutions, emphasizing performance attributes, engineering timelines, and integration.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including DoDAF diagrams, interface control documents, and hardware/software baselines.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members.
- Participate in research, analysis, integration, and operational testing events; serve as Tier‑3 support during fielding.
- Assist management in defining project scope, sequence of engineering objectives, and stakeholder engagement.
- Coordinate across engineering disciplines to deliver a unified integrated product to stakeholders.
- Perform risk management, leading Allocation of Authority (AoA) with emphasis on customer requirements.
- Keep abreast of industry best practices, cyber security standards, and evolving services.
- Advocate for services and work to enhance value, operational viability, and end‑user adoption.
- Provide transparent communication to peers, customers and stakeholders to meet schedules and identify risks.
- Support service lifecycle activities, cyber compliance, and project deliverables to meet MVP, IOC and FOC criteria.
- Assess proposed changes to software, systems, and features for impact on system authorizations.
- Lead deliverable reviews and corrective actions across enabling activities.
- Review security architecture, design, development, and configuration of information systems.
- Support design work for organizational information systems and legacy upgrades.
- Ensure best practices in secure design, architecture and coding are followed.
- Manage backlog and capability roadmaps.
- Recommend mitigation for emerging security threats and technologies.
- Identify integration issues with existing infrastructure and recommend solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
- 9 years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 7 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD or J.D.; or high school diploma and 13 years experience.
- Preferred: 15 years with a Bachelor’s; 13 years with a Master’s; 10 years with a PhD or J.D.; or high school diploma and 19 years experience.
- IAT Level 2 Certification required.
- Active Secret clearance; must be able to acquire TS/SCI.
- Experience applying rigorous systems engineering processes and automation to deliver next‑gen capabilities.
- Knowledge of MBSE and systems engineering best practices.
- Solid application of systems engineering throughout development and sustainment.
- Experience researching industry trends, security vulnerabilities, and hardening services using STIGs and CI/CD.
- Excellent problem‑solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience installing complex IT or communications systems at enterprise level.
- Experience in a government contracting environment.
- Self‑motivated, driven, and able to work independently while seeking help when needed.
Preferred Requirements
- Significant Linux and Windows experience; RHEL Certified Systems Engineer desired.
- Experience with distributed DoD modeling and simulation.
- Experience with complex IT integration and networking projects.
- Experience with DoD C4I systems and protocols.
- Experience with Agile methodologies, frameworks, and tools such as Confluence, Jira, Git.
- Knowledge of container fundamentals and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
- PowerShell, scripting and task automation skills.
- Experience designing servers in on‑premise and cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Familiarity with DoD RMF processes and Cyber Compliance.
- Strong familiarity with cloud‑based virtualization and VM industry standards.
