Description

The Systems Engineer Electrical is responsible for moderately complex to complex electrical engineering design, electrical control system development, system integration, technical documentation, and project support for Motion Solutions systems projects. This position applies advanced working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, control systems, automation components, power distribution, electrical codes and standards, hydraulic and pneumatic interfaces, and manufacturing considerations to develop engineered solutions that meet customer specifications, safety requirements, quality standards, and business objectives.

Salary: $100K - $115K Salary | DOE

Primary Duties:

  • Manage assigned electrical engineering projects through design, build, testing, commissioning, and production handoff.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, purchase orders, RFQs, standards, and sales information to define electrical project scope and requirements.
  • Develop electrical designs for Motion Solutions systems, including control panels, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, power distribution, sensors, instrumentation, drives, PLC/HMI interfaces, and related components.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical evaluations to support electrical design decisions, component selection, safety, reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Create and maintain drawings, electrical schematics, panel layouts, bills of material, test documentation, manuals, and related project records.
  • Use AutoCAD Electrical or related design software, Vault, Microsoft Office, and applicable engineering tools to support design, documentation, revision control, and project execution.
  • Select electrical, automation, instrumentation, control, hydraulic, pneumatic, and related components based on requirements, performance, cost, availability, reliability, safety, and application needs.
  • Support design reviews, engineering reviews, code compliance reviews, and technical problem-solving to ensure designs meet customer, internal, production, and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineering, production, sales, project management, vendors, panel builders, programmers, and customers to resolve technical questions and support project execution.
  • Interface with customers to clarify electrical and controls requirements, support design discussions, provide technical updates, and address concerns.
  • Support fabrication, panel build, assembly, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, validation, and commissioning through technical direction and design clarification.
  • Identify and resolve moderately complex to complex electrical, controls, or system integration issues; recommend solutions and elevate when appropriate.
  • Review engineering documentation, including drawings, schematics, bills of material, calculations, test procedures, quality records, manuals, and closeout documents.
  • Maintain document structure, revision control, and project records in Vault and other applicable systems.
  • Coordinate with Production, Project Management, Sales, Purchasing, Accounting, Shipping, Contracts, Quality, and Customer Service to support project deliverables.
  • Support component sourcing, vendor communication, pricing, lead time review, and technical clarification for electrical and controls components.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers, designers, technicians, programmers, or project team members.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in engineering processes, documentation standards, electrical design practices, manufacturability, quality, safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional work environment and comply with company policies, safety requirements, quality standards, electrical standards, and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in electrical engineering, controls engineering, automation, system design, industrial equipment, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience developing electrical designs, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, bills of material, calculations, test documentation, and related project records.
  • Experience supporting design, build, wiring, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and production handoff for engineered systems, automation equipment, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience with electrical, controls, automation, instrumentation, hydraulic, pneumatic, and related mechanical components used in motion control, fluid power, automation, or industrial systems preferred.
  • Experience interpreting customer specifications, RFQs, purchase orders, drawings, schematics, vendor information, manuals, electrical standards, and process documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with customers, vendors, sales, engineering, production, panel builders, programmers, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Experience using AutoCAD Electrical or related electrical design software, Vault, Microsoft Office, and ERP systems preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Electrical, controls, automation, fluid power, or related technical certification preferred but not required.
  • Individuals may need to complete company-required training courses to ensure proper product knowledge, safety knowledge, electrical standards knowledge, and system understanding.
  • Advanced working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, electrical control system design, component selection, engineering documentation, and design for manufacturability.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, automation, instrumentation, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical interface requirements used in Motion Solutions systems.
  • Ability to independently resolve a wide range of moderately complex to complex technical issues using sound judgment, established engineering practices, applicable standards, and available resources.
  • Ability to interpret customer needs and technical requirements and translate them into practical, safe, reliable, profitable, and manufacturable engineered solutions.
  • Ability to perform and document engineering calculations, component evaluations, design assumptions, risk considerations, and technical recommendations.
  • Ability to create, review, and maintain electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematic, panel layouts, bills of material, test documents, manuals, and project documentation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical or related electrical design software required; familiarity with Vault document management preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project, to support documentation, reporting, analysis, and project coordination.
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of P21 ERP, Tour De Force, and other company systems used to support engineering and project workflows.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing project requirements, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including employees, managers, vendors, salespersons, production personnel, panel builders, programmers, and customers.
  • Ability to present technical information clearly, respond to questions, and support customer‑facing electrical design and controls discussions in a professional manner.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The essential functions of this position will require the employee to perform the following physical activities:

  • Frequent use of office and warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and move materials up to 70 lbs.
  • Regular standing and walking on cement flooring; bending, reaching, climbing ladders.
  • Work environments may include warehouses, offices, manufacturing sites, and customer facilities with varying temperatures and conditions.
  • Travel up to 30% may be necessary by land or air.
